V 1 W ( Last Salmon Feast-CelUo-April24, 1954 Alfred Monner spent his early boyhood years on a homestead near South Junction, Oregon, and across the Deschutes nver from the Warm Springs Indian Reservation. His father knew many of the Indians, and they would often come to visit with the family at their homestead cabin. Later, the Monner family moved to Portland so that Alfred and his sister, Ida, could attend high school. While there he became interested in photography, and began to make pictures of people and places which interested him. Among the people he remembered were the Indian friends of the homestead years. During the 1930's he renewed his friendship with the Indians, attending many of their festivals, and photographed the people he knew. The photographs shown here are a part of that collection. v.
