Hood River Eagles win tourney Shaync Fillmore scored 21 points to lead the Hood River Eagles over the Madras White Buffalos, by the score of 70-55, Saturday night De cember 14, 1990, in the finals of the Madras Holiday invitational basket ball tournament The game however was much closer than the final score shows as at the end of the first period the score was 19-18, in favor of the Eagles. Ryan Boyle the talented Buff senior who scored a total of 25 points to out score everyone for the night This was the first set-back for the Buffs for the season after a pretty good start At the end of the first quarter the score was 91-18, as each team ex changed baskets and kept within range of each other, in the second auartcr they both scored a total of 1 3 Points apiece to make the score 32 3 1 with the Eagles still holding a one point lead. During the third quarter the Eagles managed to hold the edge over the determined Buffs where the Eagles were able to score 16 to the Buffs 1 5 points making the score 48 46, with the Eagles still in command and the lead. As the fourth and final quarter got under way something sort of went wayward as the Eagles went on a rampage to run away from the Buffs scoring 22 points to the Buffs 9. There was no way the Buffs could over take the Eagles with a few min utes left in the game as the Hood River Valley team went on to win the tournament, as the host White Buf falo team the runncr-up. Bovlc was the top scorer for the Buffs with 25, Scott Moses 12, Mark Harris 6, Ryan Grote 6, Spencer Gcrke 4, Tommy Norton 2, Leif Suppah, Shane Barnes, Jeb Buttfcr,Scott Delamarter. Scoring for the Eagles was Fillmore 21 Johnson 10, Wells 9, Holloway 8, Morrisctte 6, Zorza 5, Shcrrcll 4, Adolfson, Perkins, Hull, Moore. The Madras White Buffs reached the finals beating the Crook County Cowboys on Friday night by the score of 83-52. In that game the Buffs jumped out to an early lead and never were in any trouble after leading 19 9 at the end of the first quarter and 39-26 at the half. They led by the score of 60-37 after three quarters and ending up with the final score of 83-52. Scott Moses led the scoring for the Buffs with a total of 23, Boyle 18, Ccrkc 8, Harris 8, Ryan Grote 8, Barnes 6, Tommy Norton 6, Butler 2, Suppah 2, Delamarter 2. Scoring for the Cowboys was Walker 15, Bcrger 13, Ryan 12, Kronberger4, Morgan 4, Law 2, Ball 2, Porfily, Joyner. The Henley Hornets of Klamath Falls took third place beating Crook County 93-63 for third place. a Buff girls stomp Cottage Grove In a non league game the Madras girls basketball team stampeded over the Cottage Grove girls 93-30, Satur day afternoon, Dcc.14, 1991. Cottage Grove a school that just turned 3-A, still with a large student body fell vic tims to a fired up Buff team. Right from the opening tip-off the Buffalo girls went right to work smothering the visitors on an outburst to lead 20-7 at the end of the first quarter. Cottage Grove had the height ad vantage but that didn't stop Michelle Simmclink from scoring 23 points during the game to pave the way for the host Buff team. Laura Sahme added 16 points for the winning cause, she also had the only three point basket in the game, she is always working the ball looking for the open player for the easy two point play, along with her fine shooting. Heather Clowcrs came off the bench and added 13 points and she was effective on the rebounding also. Becky Dodson poured in a total of 12 points as the hard working post player is always around where the ball comes down and many times has the rebounds where she can put up the shot for the easy two. Margie Dure tie added 10 points to make the fifth player to finnish the game in double figures. Shirley Allen turned in a fine performance bo th on offense and defense keeping pres sure on the opponnets ball handlers, she scored 7 points during the game. Louannc Foltz scored 6 points for the winners, Allison Kirsch added 4 points to the total. The top scorer for the visiting College Grove Lions was Fields with 13, Brown 5, Hanson 4, Walter 2, Blackman 2, Pollard 2, Rawlett, Hass, Durfinger, Hooter and McChene. Both teams had a total of 18 fouls during the game, Allison Kirsch was the only one to foul out ..X Buffaloes stampede Prospectors The Madras boys basketball team traveled to meet the Grant Union Pros pectors, in a non-league encounter on Dec. 17, 1991. The Buffs went right to work jumping out to an early lead and after one quarter ended the Buffs were in front 15-6. From that point on the host team was never in the contest as the Buffs rolled to a 29-15 half time lead. In the second half the Buffs rolled on scoring 40 points to the Prospectors 19. 20 points in each of the final two quarters.Scott Moses was the top scorer for the Madras boys with 17, Ryan Boyle 14, Harris 12, Barnes 11, Suppah 7, Gcrke 4, Norton 2, Delamarter 2, Butler. Win against The Dalles brings record to 3-1 "As I See's U'm!" The Madras Buff gals topped The Dalles Indians for the second time this year by the score of 55-48, in a non-conference game in Madras, Dec. 17, 1991. Becky Dodson also had a good game as she contributed 14 points and also did good work under the backboards bringing down several rebounds.Laura Sahme added 11 points toward the win and had a good game in front court also had several assists. Margie Durette and Shirley Allen turned in a fine performance in the front court both on offense and defense, with Durette adding 3 points and Allen 2. Allison Kirsch added 3 points, Luanne Foltz 2 points for the winners. The Buff girls jumped out to the early lead and kept The Dalles on the catch up side of things and never let them get too close at any time. Both teams saw periods of slack action where there wasn't much scoring done, as both teams had some off periods. The teams were pretty evenly matched height wise but the Buffs just out hustled them both on offense and defense. Madras was called for 15 fouls and The Dalles had 17 infractions. The Buffs were 5 of 10 at the free throw line while The Dalles was 6 14. Both teams showed improvement since their first meeting at The Dalles earlier this year. Hood River Eagles won the game and the championship with a score of 75-55 Warm Springs Magpies play in Hawaii tourney Satch Miller 6, Mark Stacona. The Warm Springs Magpies men's basketball team participated in the 3rd annual HawaiianIndian Good will basketball tournament which was held in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii, on December 3 to 7th, 1991. The Mag- , pies placed 6th in the final standings and placing one player on the all-star team which was Jerome Davis. This was an exciting event which brought in teams from the mainland , to compete with the finest teams from the Islands. There were two other Indian teams there that competed which were the Montana Warriors, and the Chico Coyotes, of Califor nia. The Magpies played their first game against Na Alii, who beat the Magpies by the score of 136-102. In their second game the Magpies de feated the team Kanaka Jam, by the scoreof 79-59. This putting the Mag pies in the bracket for the consola tion title where they were matched up against the Maui Hoopers, who defeated the Magpies 92-84. The Na Alii team right from the Island of Kauai, was the champions, with Kapaa Alumni Warriors the runners-up, third place went to Chico and Shop.Ericksons, Marketand Les Schwabs tire, and a big thanks to Lana Shike for her hard work in get ting the team there. There was also a four womens basketball tournament held in con junction with the mens tournament, the results of the womens tourna ment are not available.The following are the box scores of the games played there. The Magpies roster consisted of Jerome Davis, Tray Leonard, Andy Leonard, Satch Miller, Gene Smartlowit, Mark Stacona, Austin Greene, with bookkeepers, Emily Greene and Marci S tacona. The team is already making plans for fund rais ers for the event next year. Community Center Candy Sale There is a candy sale going on at the Community Center with all proceeds going toward the Little League pro grams for the summer months.
