Healthy eating
1. Fresh fruit is a better choice
than ice cream and apple pic.
2. Try bringing your own food to
feasts or other gatherings. Take along
food can be raw vegetable, lettuce
salads, popcorn, diet drinks, apples,
oranges.
3. Many traditional foods, such as
venison, salmon, huckleberries and
roots are good choices. They have
less fat.
4. Choose boiled or baked meats
and fish. Avoid fried foods.
5. Eating fried bread can increase
your blood sugar. Fresh fruit is a
better choice. Can t resist fry bread?
Share one with a friend.
6. Eating smaller amounts helps
control blood sugar.
7. Use very small amounts of
gravy, salad dressings, butter and
margarine.
8. Raw vegetables and salads are
good choices. Dips and dressings can
raise blood sugar. Use small amounts.
9. Try waiting 20 minutes before
going back tor more tood. It takes
about 20 minutes for your stomach to
get the message to your brain that it
is full.
10. Talk to family and friends

To the Editor,
Some how I've been wanting to
write in regards to one of your articles
about "Some haven't forgotten the
Korean War."
I am a five-time wounded veteran
and I praise Chcslcy Yahtin very
much. I was one of the nine of the
possible through holidays
while you eat. Some people find they
eat less while they are talking.

Thank you for prayers
To my family, friends and rela
tives, I'm writing this letter in regards to
myself, Florence Ellen Culps. I would
like to thank all the people for their
prayers, it has helped me out a lot.
Through the difficult times I've
been through like the loss of my first
child and the loss of my grandmother,
my Kuth-la. I thank all the people
who were there helping my mom out,
we really appreciate it from the bot
tom of our hearts.
I am in a correctional institution
here in Idaho. I'll be going to board
this month so hopefully our Grand
father will make his decision for me.
I have learned my lesson.
I'm doing fine, thanks to all of
your thoughts and prayers.
To my family, I am real sorry for
my past, I hope you all can forgive
me and accept my apologies! I love
and miss you all.
And I'm glad we got people who
care, and I'm glad you people were
there for my mom and the rest of my
family, I know it was difficult, like it
would be for anyone. I am thankful

There s going to be a memorial
"Korean War Memorial" dedication
set up in 1992. 1 hope Chcslcy Yahtin
can make this honor of being there.
I was also pictured in your paper
when Larson Kalama honored his
uncle of World War II. As I see, I
very seldom see any honoring of that
kind...maybc a few at powwows. But
Woody Sm ith has rarely been spoken
of. And at the honoring, he spoke of
his combat trauma for the first time
since World War II. I also honor this
veteran. What Larson Kalama did
was a traditional thing for his uncle.
Tradition is going out of whack. I
dropped an Eagle Feather in White
Swan and there was no pick-up cer
emony. A non-Indian, non-Veteran
carried my Eagle Staff at the October
5 Northwest Indian Summer Cel
ebration. I just want to let the brothers
and sisters of the powwow circle to
keep in minds the tradition and
spirituality of the powwow is great.
I enjoy reading your paper very
much.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Bernerd J. Rock
