The publication is designed to answer questions about Social Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) disability benefits. Social Security pays disability benefits to people unable to work for a year or more because of a severe mental or physical condition, or to people who are not expected to live. People infected by the human im nv.nodcficicncy virus, which sup presses the body's natural ability to fight infection, may qualify when they are no longer able to work, or when they must severely limit the amount of work they do because of the disease. Tribal police, along with the BIA Agency Special Officer responded to the area where the body was lo cated. According to Rob Moran, Agency Special Officer, stated the victim was Anthony A. Barker, age 27. Barker was from California. The FBI, Wasco County Sheriffs Department, Portland Area Gang Task Force Unit, Oregon State Police Crime Lab, Warm Springs Forestry Department and the Warm Springs Search and Rescue unit responded to the crime scene to assist in the in vestigation. The victim 's body was transported by Bel-Air Funeral Home to the Portland Medical Examiner's office in Portland where an autopsy was conducted October 8. According to Moran, the "cause of death has been determined to be from a gun shot." Authorities have since learned and Rummage sale set The parents of senior students are sponsoring a rummage sale October 26 at the Jefferson County Fair grounds in Madras. Moran is heading the investiga tion. Police statistics noted The month of September proved to be qui te busy for the patrol division, a the new school year got underway. Officer Holliday was busy preparing lesson plans as the second year of the "Drug Abuse Resistance Education" (DARE) program is about to begin. Holliday s first class was held Oc tober 16. The officers have been busy keeping an eye on the average speed of vehicles, especially within the Warm Springs comm unity and school zone. Buckle u and watch out for children. McGruff, the crime dog, made two very special appearances at the Warm Springs Elementary school recently. To kick off healthitness and say no to drugs, McGruff par ticipated in the first school fun run of the year. Continuing on his crusade, McGruff popped in on the school during their first open house to help show support for the students, parents and teachers. McGruff reminds community members that he needs their help to "take a bite out of crime! " The campus field was the sight of the Public Safety Volleyball chal lenge that pitted Fire and Safety against the Police department.. The results of the contest are unavailable, depending on to whom you speak. In any event, it was great exercise. The numbcrchange resulted from Congressional legislation that re quires Federal Government agencies to convert to a new telecommunica tions system called "FTS 2000." This Halloween marks the tenth consecutive year that the residents of Mountain View have offered their home as a safe place for children to "Trick or Treat." Each year, Mountain View has experienced more children visiting the residents and gathering treats on Halloween. This year, officials at Mountain View expect over 800 children to visit the home between 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In prepara tion for their young visitors, resi dents make an assortment of treats including popcorn balls, carmel corn and cookies. Local businesses and citizens are encouraged to join the employees of Mountain View Hospital and Nursing Home in donating wrapped candy, fresh fruit or the ingredients for treats to the resi dents. MatoTopa, 1984 General Council Meeting Tuesday, October 22 Agency Longhouse Dinner at 6 p.m.; meeting to follow Agenda: WSFPI Status Report Howlak Tichum Mario Lorenzano Garate Fifteen month old child, Mario Lorenzano Garate died Thursday, October 10,1991 in Warm Springs. The cause of death is unknown. He was bom June 21, 1990 in Portland, Oregon to David and Lisa (Strong) Garate. On Friday October 11, dressing ceremonies were held at Bel-Air Co lonial Funeral Home in Madras, Or egon at 10:30 a.m. Prayer services followed at the Agency Longhouse. Burial services were then held at the lower Seckseequa Cemetery in Warm Springs. Wilson Wewa and other tribal elders officiated the services. Survivors include his parents David Garate and Lisa Strong of Warm Springs, sisters; Allie Maria Garate and Salina Strong, brothers; Aaron James Strong, grandparents; Venus Strong of Warm Springs, James Strong of Yakima, Washing ton, Maria L. and Eliodoro R. Garate of Mexico. J I A
