As the half ended the score was 12-10 in favor of the host team. Nyssa scored first early in the first quarter on a 26 yard field goal by Estrada after the Buff defense rose to stop the Nyssa drive. The B uffs come right back to score a touch down on a 18 yard pass as Shane Barnes hit Ryan Boyle right in the comer of the end zone putting the Buffs out front 6-3, but the kick failed for the PAT. In the second quarter Scot Moses did some fine running, side stepping dodging what would be tacklcrs to make a spectacular 17 vard run for the Madras second TD for the night. A run for two points failed but the Burns Hilanders continue The league Bums Hilandcrs had to come from behind to over take the determined buff team to keep their unblemished record in the Greater Oregon League and now are 4-0. Once again it seemed like the Buffs gave the game away on two costly turn overs giving the Hilandcrs good field position on both occasions late in the game. The Buffs hit pay-dirt early in the game as they took the opening kick off setting them up around the 30 yard line. On the second play of the game Shane Barnes hit Ryan Boyle with a pass where he out ran the entire defensive backficld unit on a 70 yard run, with DiCintco doing the kicking which lit up the scoreboard with 7-0 in favor of the Buffs. Both teams battled back and fourth until the closing minutes of the first half when the Hilanders were able to KNT Fall run date set The Warm Springs Recreatio.. As time was running down be fore the intermission the Nyssa Bulldogs made a drive moving the ball down to the one yard line when Martinez went in for the score, with Estrada doing the kicking the score was the Buffs 12. Bulldogs 10. There must have been too much half time activities because when play resumed in the 3rd quarter it looked like give-away instead of kecp-away, as the Nyssa Bulldogs seemed to control the ball where they made a steady advance across the field until Hartley ran the ball in from eight yards out The kick was good and Nyssa regained the lead 17-12 Early in the third quarter Scott Moses got the ball, ducked, dodged and side stepped the defenders and ran the ball in from 63 yards out but it was all for naught as the Buffs were flagged push the ball across the goal line on a 20 yard scamper by Graham, and with the kick good the score was tied when the intermission came at 7-7. In the third quarter it was a nose to nose battle most of the quarter until the Hilandcrs were able tocome with in field goal range where they split the up-rights with a 23 yardcr for 3 points, putting them out front 10-7. In the final quarter Barnes hit Boyle again with a pass and the fleet-footed Buff raced 78 yards for the score with the Buffs putting the heat on the host Hilanders taking the lead away from them 1 3-1 0. The go ahead score was a pleasing sight as the time was running down. When the roof caves in it came down ceiling and all as the Buffs gave up two costly turn-overs which may have cost them the game and added spark to the host Hilander team. On both occasions the Buffs Reservation Runners note activities The Warm Springs Reservation Runners have not been real active since Pi-Ume-Sha, however, they do still get involved with things. The club is currently participating in the CHRs 500 mile challenge. The Runner's club has 19 members on their team. They are all looking foward to the November fitness challenge, also. Hope that more of you will be able to participate in that. The club has a lot of T-shirts left over from the last two Pi-Ume-Sha runs. Also available are T-shirts from the Tygh Valley run and the Runner's club T-shirts. If anyone is interested in purchasing one of these, they are currently selling for $5 each. Contact Val Squiemphen at 553-1421, after 6 p.m. The Runner's Club is always looking for new members to join and would like to stress that you do not have to be a runner. If you're a walker or just someone interested in promoting good health, we would like you to join also. A lot of the members travel to the different runs in Oregon and Washington. You can always find one of them running or walking along the road someplace on the Reservation, always training for that next one. Just recently Terry and Gladys Squiemphen and Cal Poncho were asked to participate in a run in Washington, promoting the Yaki ma Indian Reservation's Fitness Day (coming up soon). scription, aerobics, strength, flex ibility, weight control and nutrition; starter program, supervision as well as group exercises; education, wellness facts, concepts and prin ciples; motivation, reinforcement, behavior and management and feedback, re-evaluation, communi cation and logs. Learn to swim There will be a beginning swim for backficld in motion which wiped out the score and they had to do it all over again only with five yards added to their destination. A couple plays later Moses injured his ankle and was lost for the rest of the game. The Buffs were unable to get the ball to the goal line and were held by the stiffinning Nyssa defense. The game was a see saw affair until the closing minutes of the game when Talbot ran the ball in from 3 yards out to pad the Bulldog lead, and again Estrada was perfect with his toe booting the extra point to make the score 24-12. And that's the way it ended. The Buffs will have a tough game in their next encounter as they travel to meet the league leading Burns Hilandcrs on their home field as that is home coming for them. The Hilandcrs lead the league with a 3-0 record and hope to add to that against the Buffs. to roll on miss-handled the ball hobbling punts and trying to pick up the ball when they should have fell on it and the Hilander defenders recovering the ball in good field position. After the first Bums recovery Winn ran the ball in to get the go ahead lead and the kick was good putting the Hilandcrs out in front 17-13. Latcronanothcrmiss-handlcdball went under a pile of players and when the uncovered the ball Bums was again on top, and again the Hilanders were in good field position where Winn once again ran in from one yard out to cap the scoring for the night. The Hilandcrs were fortunate to come away with the win on those; two costly tum-overs. All stats taken from the sports caster of the Bums Radio Station which was aired on Warm Springs, KWSO. Some of the Runner's Club goals are to promote good health among the people of this reservation and to get more people involved in community activities. The club members feel running and or walk ing are just several of the ways to do that. Several activites that the club has contemplated undertak ing are a biathlon, a marathon, a series of runs for High School kids, using these as ways to keep the kids training for school activites, plus a clinic or series of clinics for walkers and or runners. The club members would really like to see these get off the ground, but in order to do so, need help. They would really enjoy having you be a part of these.
