'7.i O h Open draws arge fed of players The 19th annual Kah-Nee-Ta Fried Bread Open took place dur ing the Pi-Ume-Sha celebration weekend, June 22-23, 1991. The tournament was divided in three divisions. For division A, the winner of the gross section was Tom Estimo, Sr. of Kah-Nce-Ta who scored 151 points. Followed by Al Estimo also of Kah-Nee-Ta who trailed by one point. Both Clawson Masayasva of New Mexico and Levi Bobb of Kah-Nee-Ta carded 153. In the net section of division A the finalists included; Darwin Green of Col wood who scored 134 to take the lead, followed by Nine Peaks' Paul Williams who carded 135. Dave Deskins of Elks Allcnmore scored 141 along with Allen Phillips of the Dalles. For Division B the winner of the gross section was Chuck Schmidt of Kah-Nee-Ta who carded 159. Gary Davies of Spring Hill totaled 160. Jim Bauman of Nine Peaks of Lower Valley was second with 134. Followed by Tom Estimo, Jr. of Kah-Nce-Ta who scored 141 and Mike Wood of Bcavcrton scor ing 145. For division C the finalist in the gross section included Albert Come down of Kah-Nee-Ta who scored 1 72. Les Walling of Spring Hill fol lowed with a score of 1 75. Bill Arke of Orchard Hills carded 183 and Chuck Peterson of Alderbrook scored 189. For the net section the winner was Bob Tamura of San tiam who scored 136. Will Bowker of Colwood followed with 139. Dwayne Atchlery of Hood River had 147 while Stan Kirk of Salem trailed with 150. For the ladies division the win ner of the gross section was Made line Queahpama of Kah-Nee-Ta who carded a 178 score. Behind her was Shari Olson of Spring Hill who had 191 and Mary Walling also of Spring Hill who scored 195. When the riders broke over the top down the steep hill toward the finish line with just the creek in between them and finish line it was Joyce Suppah who led the pack in winning the race in a fast 50 minutes and 37 seconds, as , she nosed out her brother Jay Sup ipah who was just a step or two behind and his time was 50:38. It was a tough race but Joyce was able to hold her Bro off at the finish t line for the win. This is the second time Joyce has won the long race. Allen Gilbert, Jr. came in third , with the time of 51:24, while Delvis "Bullneck" Heath came in fourth, his time was 53:06, while Shari , Heath came fifth and her time was ,57:48. Bullneck said he's getting closer to being the winner, maybe , next year he will top the field. 7 In the Junior division it was i Flint Scott taking first place, this is his second time of winning the race. The Jr. division race is near 5 miles which Flint rode his horse in ' with the time of 1 1:34, second was Charley Spino his time was 1 1:42, third was Isreal Scott with the time of 11:45 and in fourth place was nSmokey Wewa and his time was 13:45. Well, last year there was a stick wasn't a race this year, Brenda horse race around the Shaker Scott is the latest winner of that J Church, but somehow this year all event, nosing out Bernard Topash, the stick horses got away and there last year. t , , 4 Robert Heath getting to the finish line just a wee bit ahead of Shane Olney during the Endurance Race. Inter-Tribal, White Swan take slo-pitch championships be held at the Buff Elementary Cycling Classic scheduled The 1 1th annual Pi-Ume-Sha Slo-Pitch Softball Tournament for both men and women was held June 22-23, 1991 at the Warm Springs Community Center fields. The women s finalist teams placed as follows: The 1991 Championship wind- breakers were given to Inter-Tribal Sports from Warm Springs; Runner-up sweatshirts were awarded This is your invitation to partic ipate in the First Annual Bend Summer Festival to be held in con junction with the Cascade Cycling Classic this July 13 and 14. The Cycling Classic draws over 20,000 people and it is anticipated that this top quality food, beer, wine and art event will draw several thousand more wine and food en thusiasts over the week-end. The Festival, organized with the cooperation of the Bend Down towners Association, Bend Metro Park and Recreation District, Re gional Arts Council of Central Oregon, and Central Oregon Art Society, will be situated in Down town Bend on Wall, Oregon and Minnesota streets. The Festival will make over 150 booths availa ble to Pacific Northwest wineries and mocrobreweries; local restau rants, caterers, and food establish ments; and Central Oregon artists. ' The Festival also has several booth spaces available to civic and cu'tural organizations for a fee of $100. The booth space is 10'x 10' and you will be responsible for set up your own booth and pro viding for signage (we ask that you arrange for a professional-looking sign). The high school's newest coach, Bruce Reece, is from Grants Pass, Oregon w here he was North Valley High School head football for the past three years.
