Farmers Home Administration
(FmH A) has recently implemented
a program to provide guaranteed
loans to nonprofit organizations,
public bodies & Indian Tribes. The
FmH A has been able to participate
with the local banks, savings and
loan associations, and farm credit
banks on a variety of guaranteed
loan programs in the past, but until
FHA offers guaranteed loans

First annual veterans powwow
The first annual Veterans Pow
wow will be held in Warm Springs,
Friday November 9 and 10, 1990at
the Agency Longhouse. Lucas and
Tyrone Ike will be Masters of
Ceremonies and the opening prayer
will be given by Marvin Meanus,
Sr. Guest speaker will be Raymond
Calica, Sr. Invocations will be led
by Fred Ike, Sr.
The two-day event will begin at 4
p.m. with dinner. Host drum will
be Black Stone of Canada. From 6
to 7 p m a War Bonnet grand entry
will be held. The crowning of the
queen will be held at 8 p.m. Tickets
may be purchased from Estomina Made
and Ramona Antonia Sam-Lopez.
Between 8 and 9 p.m., tiny tots, 0 to
8 years of age, will dance. Special
recognition by veteran families from
9 to 1 0 p.m. will conclude the even
ing's event.

ment allows merged school district
to combine tax bases. The question
is: "Shall constitution allow school
district created by merger a tax
base equal to sum of tax bases of
merged districts?"
Measure presented to voters by
referendum is:
Measure 3-Repeals tax exemp

ments for PERS retirees. The ques
tion reads: "Shall tax exemption
for PERS pensions be repealed,

Eight measures are proposed by

safety belts. The question is: "Shall
law, effective December 7, 1990,
require safety belt use by motor
vehicle drivers and passengers over
16?'

The Tribal Construction depart
ment used this year's information
fair to get input from the com
munity. In an effort to assess the
community's attitude toward their
department, the Construction de
partment formulated a seven
question survey in conjuction with
the fair.
As an added incentive to fill-out
the survey, people visiting the
Construction department booth
had to complete the survey before
their name could go into a drawing
for a beautiful jacket. The jacket
was purchased at Inter-Tribal
Sports and came with a logo
commemorating the event. The
lucky winner out of 1 1 2 entries was
Ursula Little.
Doug Mcdlyn, Administrative
Manager of the Construction de
partment, said the department was
pleased with the general tone of the
comments from the 112 people
surveyed.
Only 37 of those responding
realized that the Tribal Construc
tion department docs not receive
financial suooort from tribal gov

Secretaries of all levels ot the
Tribal Organization have been
meeting for the past few months.
Through the secretaries action
planning group it has been decided
that a Secretaries Manual be estab
lished for the tribal organization. It
will be a manual to help every level
of secretaries. This group needs
input from all secretaries.
At the last meeting held October
26, 1990 at a noon luncheon, the
group met on topics such as: the
mission, goals training plan, com
mitment, promptness and integrity
to self, position and our organiza
tion. The next meeting is scheduled
for another sack luncheon on
November 16, 1990, in Conference

Victims Assistance meet set
The Victims Assistance program
of the Confederated Tribes of Warm
Springs will hbst a conference
November 1-3, 1990 in Portland,
Oregon at the Columbia River Red
Lion. The conference was made
available through a $91,000 grant
from the Office of Victims of Crime,
a part of the U.S. Department of
Justice.
The purpose ot the conference is
to strengthen Indian nations and
bring justice for victims of crime.
The conference will also bring to
gether diverse groups, including
victims who can work together to
meet the special challenges in their ,
communities to build more effec
tive services in Indian communities
across the nation: The National
Indian Judpp Association has en

PALS looking
. PALS (Parents Awareness Liv
ing Services) is looking for members
who have innovative ideas on ways
to provide activities for people with
disabilities. Parents, friends or
interested people who would like
to help in planning social activities
for the disabled are encouraged to
join.
Currently, activities provided for
the disabled by PALS include

Mcdlyn felt that the information
gained 'hrough the survey would
help improve the Construction
department's ability to meet the
needs of the community. ,

heading west on Highway 20. Before
they met, lumber started falling off
the truck. McConnvillc said, front
scat passenger Jazzy Wewa cried
"look out" as lumber hit the wind
sheild. When the van finally stopped
glass was everywhere. The truck,
driven by Jeff Holstcin, continued
west unaware that the accident
occurred. A passing motorist caught
up with the truck and returned to
the scene.
McConnville was able to drive
the van to Riley, about 30 miles
from the accident scene, where he
left it. Wewa, Julia Barney and
McConnville went to the hospital
for a brief examination and all
were released, no other injuries due
to the accident were reported.

bena Greene, Gladys Thompson and
Wendell Jim.
The van was towed back to Warm
Springs and repaired.
