DESCRIPTION
Applicant must be free from dysfunctional
use of alcohol and illegal drugs. Provide!
full range of secretarial services for the
department including typing, filing and
maintain confidentiality.
Position works with families designated as
abused andor neglected or are at risk by
abuse or neglect. Requires knowledge ot
the dynamics of abusive or neglectful fami
lies and how to treat the family using case
management techniques. Stress manage
ment is also important due to the nut u re of
the work. A criminal background check is
required due to the sensitivity of the work.
Worker must be free from dysfunctional
use of alcohol and illegal drugs. Minimum
education of Associates degree required
with three to five years experience. BA
degree preferred.
Must be high school graduate, six years
experience, plus two years vocational train
ing or equivalent. Must have valid Oregon
drivers license.
Learn H VAC trade through Oregon Slate
Apprentice program, transport and install
various parts. Work and learn from engi
neering technicians. Maintain high level of
interest in healing ventilating refrigeration
and cooling trade. This is a training posi
tion only and is tribal member preference.
All candidates must complete career pro
file and assessment with Employment Ser
vices prior to interview.
Applicant must be poised, efficient, person
nableand hardworking. Excellent secretar
ial skills are required. Prior experience in a
law-related field is helpful but not neces
sary. Step and salary within grade are
negotiable based on skills. Temporary
two-year appointment.
Works various hours, must be able to pass
physical exam and step test. Oregon
drivers license required.
Required to be available when requested,
willing to be away from home at times for
up to 21 days, must be in good physical
condition, willing to work as a team
member with other workers, be able to run
a mile and a half in 1 1 minutes 40 seconds,
and pass step test with a score of 45.
Incumbent provides educational services
to Warm Springs Indian population and
the IMS Service Unit health care staff
where appropriate. Assess the needs for
health education based upon the social,
cultural, medical and environmental char
acteristics that best describe the tribal
population. Must have successfully com
pleted I year of graduate study in public
health education which resulted in the
MPH degree from a school of public
health accredited by the American Public
Health Association. Must have I year
experience in health education.
Basic office skills, ability to work with
public, confidentiality, dependable, know
ledge of tribal organization and surround
ing area. Flexible and should be available
by telephone.
Works various hours, High School di
ploma or GED required, valid drivers
license, at least 21 years old, no misde
meanor or felony convictions within one
year prior to hire.
High school education, pass BPST train
ing. Must be at least 21 years of age and
have a valid drivers license. Must have no
record of felonies and no misdemeanors
within one year. Must complete and sub
mit a physical examination form with
application.
MCH specialist shall be responsible for the
direction of the Tribal Maternal Child
Health Program. Should provide preven
tive maintenance and family planning
service, home visits, consultation referrals,
conductcoordinate specialty clinics, plan.
develop and administer the program bud
get, compilecomplete special assign
ments.
Mechanic aptitude test required, must be
motivated to do an outstanding job,
dependable and be able to work with many
personalities. (Possibilities job could be
part-time).
Must have desire to learn. Able to com
municate well and have positive thinking.
WSAI will train for existing positions.
Must have valid Oregon license, certified
E.M.T. by State of Oregon, basic Fire
fighter certificate, prefer Instructor I certificate.
Must have a valid driver's license, two
years general work experience, one year
experience in outdoor field forestry work,
a past record showing dependability and
punctuality.

Four arrested
On Thursday, August 9, the Nar
cotics Interdiction Team of the
Warm Springs Police Department
successfully concluded a narcotics
investigation with the arrest of four
individuals. Two tribal members
and two non-tribal members were
charged in tribal court with a total
of 12 criminal charges.
Upon execution of search war
rants, a small quantity of mari
juana and over $1,250 worth of
cocaine were seized along with other
paraphernalia. The cocaine was
packaged and ready for resale to
individuals in the Warm Springs
community.
Man dies after fall
A 33-ycar-old Warm Springs man
died shortly after falling out of the
back of a pickup near the Agency
Longhouse August 13.
Alton "Timmy" Heath was rid
ing on the edge of a pick-up bed
while it was on Kot-num Road
near Kalama Lane. Heath fell out
and struck his head on the pave
ment after which the driver, James
Wesley, Jr. immediately turned
around and picked Heath up. He
and two others, Custer Wallula
tum and Erwin Stwyer, took Heath
to Fire and Safety. Heath was then
taken to the IHS clinic where he
died. An autopsy determined the
cause of death to be a concussion
from his falling and hitting the
pavement.
Stwyer and Wesley were detained
for investigative purposes and
released the following day. Charges
of driving under the influence are
pending against Wesley.
Parent involvement
noteworthy
The Youth Work Program
sponsored an end of the summer
dance Friday, August 17. Warm
Springs Police noted increased
parent involvement at this event.
"Parents were there on time to pick
their kids up," said acting Captain
Rick Souers. In the past, Souers
said, kids have been stranded and
have been picked up late. The
improvement was substantial,
Souers said.

Crime course offered
A Basic Crime Prevention
Course, sponsored by the Oregon
Board of Police Standards and
Training (BPST) will be held Sep
tember 24 through October 5 in
Lions, Oregon. The course is open
to volunteers, crime prevention
officers or practitioners. To attend
the course, a person must be selected
by the Police Department. Contact

attending.
Protect your homes
The tribal housing office has
received several reports of vandal
ism in recent weeks. To help pre
vent such incidents and to help
protect homes, housing wishes to
establish a "neighborhood watch"
program. If you are interested con

Alton "Timmy" Heath
Alton "Timmy" Heath died Au
gust 13, 1990 as a result of a head
injury which occured from a fall
out the back of a pick-up truck.
Heath was born in Redmond
October 25, 1956 to Ursula Little.
He was a 1975 graduate of Mad
ras High School and also attended
school in Warm Springs. Heath
was a laborer in the Natural Re
sources Department also in Ranch
ing and was a self employed
craftsman, specializing in bead
work. Survivors include his mother
Ursula Little, uncles. Chief Delvis
Heath. Sr.. Benson Heath. Mar
tinez Heath and Sanders Heath.
Aunts Kathleen Foltz, Nola
Queahpama and numerous cous
ins. He was preceded in death by his
brother Eli Joe Little on January
18, 1986, his grandfather Nathan
Heath in 1970 and his grand
mother Lillie Heath in 1988.
Dressing ceremonies were held
Tuesday August 14 at 6:00 p.m., at
Simnasho longhouse with over
night services conducted by Pier
son Mitchell. The Burial was Wed
nesday August 15 at 7:00 a.m. at
the Mouth of the Warm Springs
River.

Doris Ann Broncheau
Doris Ann (Hunt) Broncheau,
age4l, died August 10 at St. Cha
rles Medical Center in Bend. She
was born April 9, 1949 to Ernest
and Lavena (Towash) Hunt in
Warm Springs.
She was a lifelong resident of
Warm Springs except for the time
she spent attending school and
working in Portland, Oregon. She
attended schools in Warm Springs
and Madras. She attended West
ern Business College in Portland
and worked at the Urban Indian
Center before returning to Warm
Springs where she worked for Tri
bal Council and the Confederated
Tribes.
She married Manuel Broncheau
in 1988. He preceded her in death
in 1988.
She is survived by two daugh
ters, Debra Lee Plouffeand Rebec
ca Ann Hunt; her father Ernest
Hunt; a brother, Abraham Hunt;
two sisters, Daisy Ike and Marilyn
Lawrence and three grandchildren,
Shardee Lee Miller, Dorian Lynn
Miller and Shanell Martina Kala
ma. All are residents of Warm
Springs.
Preceding her in death were her
husband; her mother Lavena To
wash in 1 962; a son, Sanders LeRoy
George, Jr. in 1976; and two sis
ters, Carolyn and Agnes Hunt,
who died in a house fire January 5,
1957.
Dressing ceremonies were held
Friday, August 10 at the Agency
Longhouse. Overnight services fol
lowed with burial at the Agency
Cemetery Saturday, August 11.
Larry Dick officiated.
Arrangements were under the
direction of Bel-Air Colonial Fun
eral Home in Madras.

Francis T. "Frenchy"Spino, age
33, died August 10, I990 at St.
Charles Medical Center in Bend.
He was born February 14, I957 to
Edward and Amelia (David) Spino,
Sr. in Warm Springs.
He was an enrolled member of
the Confederated Tribes of Warm
Springs and a lifelong resident of
the reservation. He worked as a
faller for Guerin Logging Com
pany. He enjoyed hunting, fishing
and rodeos.
He is survived by two sons.
George and Francis Spino, Jr.; a
daughter, Betty Spino; his mother,
Amelia Spino; two brothers. Ed
ward Spino, Jr. and Louis Spino;
and four sisters, Rosaline Moran,
Winona Spino, Roxanne Spino
and Raydine Spino. All are resi
dents of Warm Springs. He was
preceded in death by his father,
Edward Spino, Sr., who died Jan
uary 9, 1 990 and a brother. Earl
Spino, who died August 25, 1977.
Dressing ceremonies were held
Sunday, August 1 2 at the Bel-Air
Colonial Funeral Home in Mad
dras. Overnight services followed
at the Agency Longhouse. Burial
was Mondav, August 13 at the Drv
Creek Cemetery. Richard Tohet
and Samuel Starr officiated.
James Switzler
James Switzler. born January
18. 1935, died August 8. 1990 in
Madras. He was born to Bill and
Mary Ann (Kelly) Switzler in
Spearfish, Washington. He was an
enrolled member of the Yakima
Indian Nation.
Switler had worked for Boeing
Aircraft Company in Seattle as an
assembly line worker. He had lived
in Warm Springs. Wapato and
Seattle.
He was a veteran of the armed
forces.
Surviving him are three daugh
ters. Kim, Daphne and Wina Switz
ler; a sister, Alice Florendo; a
brother. Bill Switzler and numer
ous cousins, including Beulah Cal
ica and Valerie Aguilar.
A prayer service was held Thurs
day, August 9 at Bel-Air Colonial
Funeral Home. Dressing ceremo
nies were conducted August 10 at
the Merritt Funeral Home in Wa
pato. Washington. Overnight ser
vices followed with burial at the
Methodist Cemetery in White Swan
on August 1 1, 1990.
