Mew clinic, homing on June 5 ballot
On Tuesday, June 5, 1990, eligible
tribal members will cast their ballots on
two referendum items a new Health and
Wellness Center and 20 additional
homes.
In order to vote, tribal members must
be at least 21 years of age or married.
According to vital statistics, there are 1,563
eligible voters; one-third of those, or 521,
must vote to make the election legal
Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
at the Community Center.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER
The Health and Wellness Center referendum asks that:
o $1,225 million in tribal funds be appropriated
and that the Confederated Tribes be
authorized to borrow up to
$3,675 million (by issuing tribal bonds or
borrowing from a lending institution.
TOTAL $4.9 million
Indian Health Service will provide:
o All operational equipment
Addtional staff to facilitate expanded hours
and increased workload. (12 positions will be
added in 1991; 12 others will be added in
1992.)
o Operating costs of the new facility.
Financing for any alterations to the facility
when needed.
If passed, construction is expected to begin in the spring of 1991 with completion
anticipated by early 1992.
HOUSING REFERENDUM
The Housing Referendum asks that:
$7.4 million in tribal funds be appropriated.
o 20 rental homes will be constructed
o Total cost includes 10 three-bedroom and
10 four-bedroom homes to be built near the Tenino
Apartments.
o Each home will be furnished with a stove,
refrigerator, woodstove and mini-blinds.
TOTAL $1.4 million
If passed, construction is expected to begin September 1, 1990 with completion
anticipated March 31, 1991.
