Win prizes, The Wellness Prevention office is sponsoring a "Health Is Good Medicine"campaign through whicl community members and employ ees can improve their physical and mental health while at the same time earn credits toward complet ing the Medicine Wheel. A com pleted Medicine Wheel will earn participants a chance to enter draw ings that will feature health-oriented prizes. Participants will have three months to complete a Wheel. The Wellness Prevention office in cooperation with the Wellness committee came up with the idea of the Medicine Wheel after months of contemplation. The Wheel sym bolizes healthy lifestyles and im proved mental and physical health. Participants, for $5, will receive a Wheel on which they will record their various good health practices. Numerous activities will be consi dered as part of the wellness activi ties. As participants complete the various activities, they will fill in the squares that make the circle of the Wheel. Once the circle is filled in, participants, if they choose, can obtain another Wheel for $1 and begin filling it in. When the completed Medicine Wheel is turned in, the partici pant s name will be entered in a drawing for one of several prizes. Exercise Activities Credit will be given for those Howlak Tichum Ruby Dean Leno Ruby Dean Leno, born to George and Kathryn (Kershner) Dean in Tacoma, Washington March 5, I915,died March 13, 1990 in Mad ras. Ruby was an enrolled member of the Yakima Nation and moved to Warm Springs from Salem in 1939. Ruby attended Chemawa Indian School. Following graduation, Ruby attended the University of Nebraska on a full tuition scholar ship. She also attended Willamette University in Salem. Ruby married Edwin "Buster" Leno, Sr. December 5, 1936. They made their home in Warm Springs until they moved to Madras in 1975. While employed. Ruby worked as chief accountant for the BIA and as executive secretary to secretary treasurer Ken Smith. Ruby enjoyed crossword puzzles, going to garage sales, her family, flower gardening and reading. She served on the Jefferson County Public Welfare commision, was a 4-H club leader, served as a home service representative for Jefferson County Red Cross and served on the Warm Springs public school board. She was also an assistant exercises: jogging, swimming, cycl ing, exercise bike, aerobicsjazzcr cise, jumping rope, cross country skiing, brisk walking, weight train ing, chair exercises, dancing, ten nis, racquet ball handball, basket ballsoccer, mowing the lawn, yard work, chopping wood or rowing. (Length of participation varies with, each activity.) Participants will also gain extra health credits if they stop smoking andor stop drinking for good. girl scout leader. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband in 1981, her parents and three brothers. She is survived by three daugh ters, Patricia Leno-Bakerof Warm Springs, Lorraine Crowley and Gwen Darling, both of Madras. A son, Mike Leno. Sr. also survives. Surviving grandchildren include grandsons Mike Leno, Jr., Luke Sanders and Larry and Steve Darling; granddaughters Jeannie Gregg, Lonita Smith, Pixie Sand ers, Mary Kay Smith. Pam Darling, Trina Smith and Irene Nelson; and, great grandchildren Billy, Bobby and Robby Gregg, Bran don, Cody, Patricia and Cassandra Smith, Meghan and Spud-Michael Smith and Cry stal, Gina and Janelle Darling. Visitation was at Bel Air Colon ial Funeral Home in Madras March 15. Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church Fri day, March 16, 1990 with Reve rend Fred Kane officiating. Soloist was Ron McDonald. Burial was at Mt. Jefferson Memorial Park in Madras.
