Get veterans organization going again continued from page 4
meetings.
That was in 1984. 1 lost interest
fast because the ones that were so
gungho to get me to join never
bothered to show up for the meet
ings. I got tired of hearing our
World War H vets telling me how
important it is to "keep our post
going", "we owe it to our comrads
who started the post." I used to feel
guilty about it, but now I only get
angry. It seems the only time any of
our veterans get together is when a
fellow vet dies. How sad. We vets
are all special people. We all shared
similar experiences. Some good,
some not so good. It is time to
rejoin and protect what rights and
benfits we have left. The govern
ment is continuing to cut veteran
benefits. We owe it to each other to
protect what we have left.
Many Indian tribes have very
strong veterans organizations. Most
tribes' traditions give much respect
toward their warriors. Our tribe
used to. What happened? People
ask me "What are the veterans
doing for Veterans Day?" Isn't it
the peoples' responsibility to do
something for us? Not anymore, I
guess.
Fellow veterans, I don't mean
just VFW members, I mean all
vets. Let's get organizaed. We can
do things for ourselves.
The Tribe has given us the old

rans Hall, not just for VFW mem
bers. I invite you all to come to the
meetings. You know who you are.
Meetings are the second and fourth
Tuesdays of each month. The next
meeting is February 27, at 7:30

to survey flooding on Multnomah

Creek. Both senators Mark Hat
field (R-Ore) and Representative
Ron Wyden(D-Ore) feel the budget
proposal docs not reflect Northw
