At almost every tribal management meeting, this word is brought up and possible solutions are is discussed thoroughly but are never really applied to their potential. There could be a lot of infor mation that could be put to good use, but something is lack ing somewhere. Either the person who has the information is reluctant to share what he knows for certain, sometimes unknown, reasons. Perhaps it could be that he feels he has no right to reveal any information for public knowledge because it may in fringe on his job. Or, there is someone who has to give final approval for release of informa tion that is for the public and never gets around to doing his part. Spilyay Tymoo plays the roll of a communications outlet on the reservation, but in many instances, we can offer only limited information to the general readership because of that lack of communication. Many phone calls are made ask for information on various projects that we feel are newsworthy for tribal members. Many times people promise to call back but never do. Is this a way of saying you don't have any comments and are getting off the hook by saying, "it slipped my mind." Not only Spilyay Tymoo has this problem, it happens all over the country all the time. Somehow news gets out without us knowing about it until we read it in an outside newspaper and the question comes up, "Didn't you know about that? Why wasn't it in the Spilyay Tymoo?" This is a tribal newspaper and we are here to produce news for the tribal membership, but without getting all the information thoroughly and accurately, we are unable to provide news and or information to the members of the tribe. "Ahh-na-chi-toon." Powwow to be held March 3 To the Editor, My name is Carole Walters and I presently live in California althfiugh I have been an Australian resident for the past twenty years. The Australian people, after understanding their own aborigi nal culture, are curious and appre ciative of other indigenous cultures throughout our world. I was re cently in Australia and what I found was a great desire to learn about American Indian culture and art. I saw in the market places all varieties of Indonesian, Oriental and African arts and crafts but I saw virtually no American Indian artwork, either in jewelry, basketry or painting. When I spoke to Aus tralian galleries about their lack of American Indian art they expressed a great fascination and desire to know about the North American Indian culture. Perhaps because Australia is half wav around the ill world no one has exposed the Aus tralians to the aboriginal Ameri cans. I am currently studying the an thropological and artistic histories of North American Indian tribes. It is my wish to see other cultures exposed to the art of the Ameri- Sweethearts cans so that we may enrich other peoples to a culture rich in history and values. What I propose to do is buy art produced by the people living on North American reservations and export this to reputable galleries in Australia. If there are people pro ducing arts and crafts on your reservation or if you have signifi cant information about your tribe that might be of interest to others, I would very much appreciate a call or a letter from you.
