Letters to the Editor

Snow, snow, snow. ..That
seems to be the big topic around
here at the present time.. .the
only thing is, "Where is it?"
It looks like we may be in for
a long hot and dry summer if we
don't get anymore kt that white
stuff called snow I here were
several Ski resorts who were
hurting because of the lack of
snow. At one time they even
resorted to call the spiritual
leaders to sing and dance for
snow. What snow there is up in
them there hills is not much to
talk about. Traveling from here
to Portland, is like traveling
during the spring time when all
the snow has melted away.
Usually this time of the year
there is a big wall of snow on
each side of the roadway...
maybe I'll have to talk to my big medicine to see if there is anything
can be done.
The biggest storm may be in the Superdome, in New Orleans as
the 49ers and the Bronco's will tangle this week-end for the super
bowl championship. The Bronco's going into the game a big
underdog, but those things don't mean much to teams like the
Bronco's and the 49ers. The 49ers looking for back to back super
bowl wins, and if they do they will tie the Pittsberg Steelers who
have won four championships in one decade. Me, not being a
gambling guy will not mention a winner at this time (cluck, cluck).

questioned
To the Editor:
On Tuesday, January 1 6, 1 990, a
Tribal Fish and Game officer cited'
my grandson for illegal wood cut
ting of dead, burnt juniper. This
was because he was cutting it out of
designated cutting areas. Up on
orders from his supervisor, Frank
Smith, Officer Florey was sent to
my home to confiscate the juniper
that I use for heating my home,
since using electricity is too expen
sive. Why was my grandson singled
out? Other people cut juniper and
why should this happen after my
husband's funeral? Officer Florey
seen him cutting it on Sunday, why
wait until Tuesday to do something?
Also, do Biological Technicians
make home visits to pick up unused
hunting tags?
I am questioning recent occu
rences with the Tribal Fish and
Game officers and may go to the
Tribal Council to get answers.

We all know he had to go some
times. Now he is resting peaceful
and don't have to suffer anymore.
Once again, thank you.

Thank you
Dear Friends and Relatives:
We the family would like to say
thank you for your prayers, flow
ers, donations and presence during
the loss of my husband, father,
grandfather and great grandfather,
brother and nephew.
We especially appreciate the
people who traveled many miles
mainly Mr. and Mrs. Gerald
Nicodemus and Felix Aripa, Don
Schmidt and all our relatives from
Pendleton and Yakima. Also thanks
to. Kenny Scabby Robe and his
wife Louise for singing a special
honor song.
With him being a drummer, it
was especially touching to have at
one time 17 drummers. This made
us feel very happy. Thank you, to
all the drummers.
We can not name everyone, but
we, the family know who you were
and we are very thankful for all
your help. Thank you to everyone.

"If you don't go to school... "
To the Editor,
Our family worked in the fields
of potatoes, mint and garlic, then
we followed the summer crops of
berries as migrant farmworkers.
The bug-infested fields, the hard
work for low pay and the shabby
migrant housing set the perfect
stage for my mother's all-time
favorite lecture that always ended
"...and if you don't go to school.

After high school, I headed for
the city, I thought I knew all I
needed to survive. I was wrong,
and ended up living on the streets

real poverty; and all the while, my

Again, I heard my mother's lec
ture. So I guess, after twenty years,
I'm forced to admit that she was
right.
The road to a belter life starts
with an education.
Now, I try to remember the
words of tht lecture to tell my own
tenn-aged son. But, of course, I
didn't listen then. All I know for
sure is that it always ended "...and
if you don't go to school, you'll be
doing this all your life."
