Tribal member asks blessings and help
fcmt
, As the wild winds and rain
battered the state last Sunday
night, knocking out power all
over to many, many customers,
some were without power for
long periods of time. Jus to go
out in the storm was a scary
situation as a person could see
them big pine trees just a sway
ing in the wind. '
Throughout the state exten
sive damage occured to homes,
cars, and other property, and
the storm also closed highways
over the mountain passes
because of trees blown down.
There were several homes that
were powerless during the night
for quite sometime, until crews
were able to get into the area.
There is a lot ol credit due to those linemen who braved the wind
and rain, restoring power to those who were affected. Like
I said, just going out of doors was scary, but to work in all that
mess must be something else. I witnessed them exchanging a
transformer at 1 :00 a.m. for one home where it took two trucks to
hoise the linemen and the other to hoist a new transformer. Just
exchaning a transformer could be quite a job, but when one is in
the air in all that high wind and rain, the linemen must be
commended. The PP&L crews were busy around Warm Springs at all hours
of the night. I don't think Glen Campbell would be singing, "I am a
Lineman for the county," that night if he was in the area. To those
Linemen, "Thanks for a great job."
Just being there helped
Help Me Help My Children
To Bruce and Smoke,
Oh, God, help me to equip my
children to resist temptation.
Don't let me expect perfection of
them or demand perfection of my
self. But help me to equip my child
ren to live decent happy lives in a
world where it is so hard to be
good.
God, we have taken your beauti
ful world and damaged it so badly
for them. We have filled it with
physical threat and moral dangers.
All this propaganda for sexual
license, Lord: For breaking laws
we don't like; all the drinking; and
now, these soul and mind scarring
drugs.
Oh, dear God, arouse in me a
strong sense of what is truly right
and truly wrong so that I can con
vey it to them. Give me the words
to express these things, and the
courage to say them.
God, keep me close to my child
ren, so that they aren't afraid to
talk to me freely. And give me the
patience to listen no matter how
inconvenient the times when they
come.
Give me understanding God. Give
me wisdom. The wisdom to guide
them, and the wisdom to keep still
when that is best. Don't let me
invade their privacy Don't let me
try to live their lives for them.
Don't ever let me betray their trust.
God, fortify me so that 1 can for
tify my children. Give me the
strength of character to demon
strate through my own behavior
what I claim to believe.
Oh, God. help me to equip my
children to live decent happy lives
in a world where it is so hard to be
good. Love,
Mom
A blessing for Family
Trials
To Janice, Schmow, Roger, Erland,
Gena, Lyla, Carrie, Geraldine and
Celestine,
Bless every circumstance of this,
my life. Bless the bad of it as well as
the good of it. For out of the bad of
it will surely come further good.
Out of its problems I will arise
stronger. Out of its sorrows I will
emerge wiser and purer and better
equipped to cope with what is yet
to come.
Even my family will benefit from
these troubles and trials, for in
them they, too, are being tested.
They will emerge better, stronger
people. They will become more
mature. For their life stories are
being written in blood and fire as
well as love.
God, help us all to see these
truths. Bless us in our hours of fam
ily affliction. Though there may be
hours that separate us now, bless
them.. .bless them.
For out of our conflicts will
come understanding, and out of
understanding will come stronger
unions and more lasting significant
love.
Love,
Lucille

During the Holiday Tournaments, '
on Friday evening, my black pat

Happy Birthday
To the editor:
I was reading a travel article
about New Zealand in the Sunday
Oregonian(l790), happily dream
ing about living there and writing
about the Maoris as I did about
Warm Springs. When I turned to
page two, I got a very different
kind of invitation.
"Want to get into hot water?"
was the come-on. The apparent
source was a shapely woman sed
uctively draped on the edge of a
pool. As I was examining what lit
tle existed of her bathing suit, it

To the Editor,
It is very uplifting and makes me
real proud to see very young people
like the children of the late Greta
Chee honoring her in the tradi
tional way. I want to especially
thank Melinda Polk for guiding
them in the best way she knows
how, and to the sisters of the late
Russell Tufti, Reynelda and her
sister have fulfilled the traditional
rites for their brother. They are to
be commended for it.

It is unusual lor very young peo
ple to respect this and sometimes
use a lame excuse to not honor
their loved ones when in reality
they have other plans for their
finances. I know this is a healing
process for you and even though it
can be a financial burden, it out
weighs all that in the end.
I am very proud of you and am
glad I was there to help.
Lovingly,
