The American Indian Program
al Cornell University is attempting
to fill a full-time tenure track posi
tion for a new director. The posi
tion is scheduled to be filled by July
1990.
Cornell's American Indian Pro
gram is a multidisciplinary, inter
collegiate program consisting of
live components: teaching, research,
student support, extension, and

(JTPA ) and Pre-entry employees by the Employee Services staff on
Thursday, November 21, 1989. An awards ceremony followed the dinner

Linton Frank Winishut, a histo-'
rian of the Confederated Tribes of
Warm Springs, died Sunday, De
cember 10, 1989, at Mt. View Hos
pital in Madras. He was 83.
Linton was born June 5, 1906 in
Linton to Frank and Nellie Wini
shut. He was a lifetime resident of
Warm Springs. He was retired as a
building inspector for the Tribes.
He also worked as a blacksmith,
farrier, carpenter, rancher farmer,
operated a dairy and worked in a
sawmilK
He taught Indian culture and
history at Central Oregon Com
munity College and had been a tri
bal interpreter since 1934.
He was a tri-county councilman,
chief judge working on law and
order and was a member of the fish

During the time the Army Corps
of Engineers was building the air
base in Madras in 1941, Linton
worked on the project as a surveyor.
He is survived by a son, Reggie
Winishut, a daughter, Maxine
Switzler and a sister, Mary Ann
Meanus, all of Warm Springs. He
is also survived by many grand
children and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his
wife, the former Eva Brunoe, seven
children, Clayton, Percy, Lorna,
Rosalene, Aurelia, Harrison and
Ramona Winishut; a brother, Omar
Winishut; and four sisters, Emily
Winishut, Nettie White, Thelma
Winishut and Ceclia Walsey.
