Walking burns
lots of calories
Walking is taking great strides to
become one of the most popular
forms of exercise. Evidence indi
cates mile per mile, walking burns
as many calories as running. Walk
ing burns stored body fat, lowers
blood pressure, increases bone den
sity, and lowers blood cholesterol.
The faster the pace, the better con
doning overall. Walk-on!!

Jackson exerciser of month
Louise Jackson is the "Exerciser
of the Month"for November. Jack
son has been exercising on a regu
lar basis for two years about three
to four times per week at four to
five hours per week.
At present, Jackson does chair
aerobics three times per week,
occasionally low-impact aerobics
and walking two miles per week.
She says that Wellness Coordina
tor, Eva Monteeand others inspired
her as her physical well-being is
important to her.
Jackson feels that she benefits by
keeping fit physically as well as
mentally. Her specific goal is to be
mobile as long as her body and
mind will allow. She says "I work
hard to avoid getting old and
decrepate."Some of her stumbling
blocks when it comes to exercising
is doing it on a regular basis, get
ting up on cold mornings because
it's getting more and more difficult.
Her secret way of handling this is
"Just Dcaung niscu .p to get out
and at it."
Other active hobl :es Jackson
enjoys are gardening. Keeping her
own house, baby-sitting and other
little "old-lady" activities. She pre
fers to exercise with others and her
family. Most things done with the
family are "eating", and walking
with some family members.
If she hadn't any limitations she
would like to swim regularly, dance
often, walk instead of driving but
lives too far out from civilization to
do that. Jackson says that Eva's
exercising is usually the most excit
ing happenings because she makes
it fun and worthwhile.
Jackson's words of wisdom is
"Hang in there and have fun doing
it. I am a poor example outwardly
but I feel so much better physically
and mentally, it's worth all, the
effort it takes. I'd recommend it to
all ages (especially the Seniors). It
keeps your outlook orf living on the
top shelf."
