The annual slow-pitch softball
tournament held in conjunction with
Pi-Ume-Sha Treaty Days was held
June 23 to 25. There was both a
womens and a mens bracket.
The champion of the womens
division were the Northwest Swin
gers. Second place went to the Yel
low Jackets, third to the Bravettes,
while Lapwai received fourth place.
Sportsmanship went to the Pen
dleton Smokers. All stars for the
Warm Springs players include June
and Julian Smith of the Bravettes
and Anita Bryant from Guerin
Logging.
In the men's division, the Reser
vation Suns took the champion
ship. The Pendleton Minute Men
placed second. Lapwai was third,
while fourth was awarded to
Taholah. Sportsmanship went to
the White Swan Buckskins. No all
stars were given to Warm Springs
The Klamath Treaty days All
Indian Rodeo and Powwow is
scheduled for August 26 and 27,
1989, to be held at Chiloquin,
Oregon, with rodeo times set for
1:30 p.m. daily.
There will be the regular seven
major rodeo events which include
saddle bronc, bareback, bull rid
ing, calf roping, wild cowmilking,
team roping and the barrel race.
The entry fee for each event is
S40.00 with a purse of $200.00 in
each event. The entry fee in the
team roping is $40 per man, two
loops, enter two times and must
enter as a team. There is a $7 con
testant fee and the rodeo is sancti
oned by the Western States Indian
Rodeo Association (WSIRA).
Added attractions are the wild
horse race with the entry fee of $60
per team, the purse of $100, entry
fee $40 per man and can enter two
times and must enter as a team.
One member of the team must be a
non-Indian.
There will be junior events open
to anyone 12 years old and under.
The events are steer riding and bar
rel racing with a purse of $50 and
the entry fee is $5.
Books open August 14, 1989,
and close August 23, from 5:00 to
9:00 p.m. during the weekdays.

checks will be accepted. Permit
holders and home towner entrants
must have entries paid by 7 p.m.

Rodeo admission is: Adults, $3,
Senior Citizens and kids from 8 to
17 years of age, $2.
Other events during the rodeo
and powwow are on August 25, a
barbecue from 4 to 6 p.m.; Miss
Klamath pageant at 7 p.m. and a
warm-up powwow atarting at 8
p.m.
On August 27, a cowboy break
fast will be held at 8 a.m. Church
services will begin at 10 a.m.
Another barbecue will be held from
4 to 6 p.m. and a competitive pow
wow will start at 6:30 p.m. Conces
sions and arts and crafts will also
be on hand.
Awards for the rodeo events will
include for the All-Around Cham
pion a jacket and spurs. All event
winners will receive buckles and
the special event winners will receive
jackets. The Klamath Tribe invites
everyone to this annual event.

National baseball tourney set Fry Bread Open held at resort
The first annual All-Indian, 13-year-old
and under national base
ball tournament will be held August
4, 5 and 6, 1989 on the Wapato,
Washington fields. All coaches and
managers are urged to sign up.
Easter Seals softball marathon set

On Saturday, August 5 begin
ning at noon, the sixth annual
Softball Marathon will be held to
raise money for Easter Seals. All
games will be at Skylane Park in
Bend.
Every team will be given three
hours of playing softball against
Cascade Cycling Classic due
The tenth annual Cascade Cycl
ing Classic, sponsored by Central
Oregon Community College, pro
vides spectators with the opportun
ity to view some of the best profes
sional and amateur cyclists in the
world today.
Volunteers play an important
part in the success of each Cascade
Cycling Classic. This year race
organizers need volunteer course
marshals. Those who can provide
housing for riders during the five
day event are also needed.
A meeting for volunteers will be
held Wednesday, July 5 at 7 p.m. in
the Grandview Cafeteria on the
COCC campus. If you can help or
need more information about
volunteering, please call Sandy
Green at 388-0064.

free baseball visors, and if your
team can make $600 or more, team
members all win jerseys too. And
for teams that can raise $1,250 or
more, wind breakers and jerseys will
be awarded. Members of the team
that raise the most money will go
on a rafting trip down the Des
chutes. The rafting trip is spon
sored by Rapid River Rafters.
Total registration is $200, $50 of
which is a deposit to assure a play
ing slot. Teams are open to being
co-ed, men, women, and even
league. Registration deadline is July
21.

This will be a true double elimi
nation tournament. The only rule
is that pitchers must be changed
after 12 innings. Seven teams are
needed as soon as possible for the
tourney. Call and leave phone
number and name of team.
The awards will include 15
championship jackets. Second place
winners will receive polo shirts.
Third and fourth place winners will
receive T-shirts. There will be 15
sportsmanship trophies and T-shirts
awarded. There will be 10 all-star
jackets (lined) awarded. One MVP
jacket, one jacket for the most
home runs and one lined jacket for
the best catcher will also be
awarded.
The entry fee is $150 per team.
Deadline is July 3 1 , 1 989. Organiz
ers urge teams to get their fee in as
soon as possible to pay for awards.

The tournament was divided into
three divisions, A through C for
both gross and net divisions.
Division A was for golfers with
handicaps between zero and nine.

The annual Endurance Race was
held Saturday, June 24. Following
are the results of that gruelling
race.
In the senior division, Joyce
Suppah crossed the finish line first.
Coming in second was Jerry Ford,
Delvis Health came in third while
Eydie S witzler and Whitney Miller
came in fourth and fifth respec
tively. Flint Scott was first to cross the
line in the junior division of the
Jr. was fourth while Ryan Flo
rendo was fifth.
The Tribal Council office, organ
izers of the race, are already look
ing forward to next year's run.
They are tentatively planning a
"stick horse" race. In addition, the
Gordon Scott family has already
donated a yearling colt for the first
place winner in the senior division.
