Infant's diet affects health Because an infant grows every day, their diet has a major influ ence on their health and growth. The nutritional needs of a young baby are supplied best by mother's milk. However, a nursing mother must remember that alcohol, caf ficne, nicotine and other drugs will enter her milk and will affect her baby. As with a pregnancy, a nurs ing mother should not use drugs. Saturday Academy offers summer classes Central Oregon Community Col- lege has developed a Drocram for students in grades six throueh 12 called the Central Oregon Satur day Academy. The program involves profes sionals throughout central Oregon who teach classes involving com puters, engineering, mathematics, liberal and applied arts, plus many other topics. Classes are held after school, in the evenings and on Saturdays. They will be held on sight in the place of business, or in the professional intitution hosting the class. They are designed to give students instruction in specific top ics or areas of interest that are not offered in most junior high and secondary schools. Classes are small, running anywhere from four to 12 students. Saturday Academy is a non profit program which is funded by private grants, contributions and class tuition which is $35. No stu dent will be denied admission to Saturday Academy classes because of financial need. Acceptance will be given on first come, first served basis and students will be chosen by their desire, completion of pre requisites and experience. Applications are available at junior high and high school coun seling offices throughout central Oregon or by calling the Saturday Academy office at COCC, 382 6112, ext. 230. Donald Costello Judge, Warm Springs Tribal Court Obituary Jerry Shaeffer Jerry Shaeffer, age 71 , died May 17 at Billings Deaconess Medical Center in Billings, Montana fol lowing an extended illness. He was born to Samuel and Florence Shaeffer May 8, 1918 in Butte, Montana. Shaeffer served as a B 24 Liberator bomber pilot during World War II, flying missions out of Italy. He was captured and held prisoner of war for 1 1 months. Following the war, he moved to . Billings and worked at the North ern Hotel as an assistant manager until 1964. He then worked for Wetern Hotels in Boise, Idaho, and Colorado Springs, Colorado. Shaeffer then worked for Kah-Nee-Ta as assistant manager begin ning March 9, 1981. He was pro moted to lodge manager in 1983 and he retired from the resort in June, 1985. Shaeffer went to school at the University of Nevada at Reno, Hotel School in Cornell and the University of Denver in Denver,, Colorado. He married Betty Royer May 18, 1963. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, three sons and 10 grandchildren. DonaWroMeHa Jsrfgc Warn Springs TriM Court Howard "Doc" Tewee, a resi dent of Warm Springs, died Thurs day, May 18, 1989 at Mt. View Hospital. He was 52 years of age. He was born February 15, 1938 to Johnny and Annie (Anderson) Tewee in Simnasho. During his lifetime, he worked as a laundry worker at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois; a painter for the tribal utilities department; a range rider; a fire fighter for fire control; a dryer feeder for WSFPI and as a part-time employee for Comedown Logging. He was self employed as a fisherman at the time of his death. Doc enjoyed hunting, fishing and traditional net making. Doc married Florene Smith Soctt December 2, 1955 in Danville, Illi nois. During their marriage, they had seven children, five of whom preceded him in death. Those w ho died include LaVerne E. Tewee. who died January 12, I960; Mon ica Tewee, who died May 30, 1 962; Edgar Tewee, who died December 10, 1976; Dale A. Tewee, who died April 30, 1982; Desmond Tewee, who died September 15, 1988. Also . precediing him in death were his parents. On March 29, 1975, Doc mar ried Vivian Tomaskin. They had two daughters; Karen and Annie Twee. Doc is survived by his children, Bernard Tewee, Clarice Tewee, Annie Tewee and Karen Tewee; a brother Harrison Davis, Sr.; sisters Emily Waheneka, Loretta Twee, Lena Tewee Santos and Emma Tewee Telakish; an aunt, Florence Meanus and numerous nieces and nephews and grandchildren. Dressing ceremonies were held May 19. 1989 at BelAir Colonial Funeral Home. Overnight services followed at the Simnasho Long house. Burial was May 20 at the Simnasho Cemetery.
