This information is to be placed in a sealed envelope with the de scription of the bid item noted on the envelope. This may either be mailed or brought into the pur 100-mile club encourages walking, running A 100-mile club began May 3 and will continue until August 23, 1989. It is open to everyone regard less of age. A $10 entry fee will cover a tee-shirt and help in the award ceremony. A tally sheet will be furnished to record the miles walked or run. You cant win them all, importance of education, if they dont keep their grades up, then they dont travel until they do. The support they receive from their families is a great up lift too them. I'm greatful too the parents for entrusting their kids to me this sea son. It gave them opportunity to play various competition, and make new friends. Special thanks goes to the sponsors who supported us through season for entry fees. Too the tribal Council for their taking interest in the team, thank you from the team. In all they had a very successful season: three championships, three runners up, third-sportsmanship and been beaten out in one tournament. They received special recognition, an Invitation to the Inland Empire regional AAU tournament in June to be held in Yakima. Other teams also invited from the tournament were the Jr. Wildcats of Lapwai, Braves of Kennewick, and Eagles of Chiloquin. The team is also going to consider the State Games held in July in Portland. Howlak Tichum Lester Tanewasha Lester Tanewasha, age 47 died April 24, 1989 at St. Charles hospi tal in Bend, Oregon. He was born April 27, 1 940 to La Vina and James G. Tanewasha at Spearfish, Washington. Lester attended school in Warm Springs and Madras, Oregon. He received training in electricity, heavy equipment and carpentry. He was self-employed for four years in the restaurant business. In 1972 he was hired in the maintenance department at Kah-Nee-Ta. He began work with the Confederated tribes November 10, 1975 in Utilities. He worked his way to become the foreman for the building mainte nance in August 1981, where he remained until his death. Tanewasha married Patricia McKinley September 27, 1957 in Warm Springs. In addition to his wife, surviving family include: daughters, Leontyne Rae Tane-washa-Davis, Jeanette Doreva Tanewasha and foster daughter Nellie Lee Sam. A son Lester"Bus ter"Tanewasha Jr., mother. La Vina Queampts Tanewasha and grand son, Dominic Chris Davis, all of Warm Springs. One brother, James G. Queen selection will be Saturday, May 20 at II a.m. Open to all tribes. Entrants must be single and between 15 and 18 years of age. Must be mounted and in full Indian regalia. Western dances will be held Fri day and Saturday evenings start ing at 9 p.m. Also scheduled is an Indian Arts and Crafts Fair and a Buckaroo Breakfast. The breakfast starts Sunday at 6:30 a.m. and con tinues until 10:30 a.m. Cost will be $4 for adults and $2.50 for children. Sunday will be Senior Citizen's Day. Seniors will be admitted to the rodeo at half-price. Admission otherwise is: adults $5; kids $2 and small children are admitted free of charge. Preceoihg Tanewasha in death are son, Robert Kuneki, 1979; father, James G. Tanewasha, 1983; brothers Phillip Waheneka, 1939; Martin Tanewasha 1971; Vernon Tanewa sha, 1981 and Sam Colwash in 1987. Tanewasha was a member of the Shaker Church as well as the Washut religion. He enjoyed elk hunting, golf, fishing (commercial and sport) and bowling. He learned traditional net making from his father, who was a commercial fisherman on the Columbia River. As a young man he was very active in the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed working with the young men, teach ing them how to fish, hunt and enjoy the outdoors. Prayer service was held Mon day, April 24, 7:00 p.m. at the Bel Air Chapel. Dressing ceremonies was conducted Tuesday, April 25,3:00 p.m. at the Agency Longhouse in Warm Springs with Nelson Wal lulatum and Larry Dick officiat ing. Overnight services was held, then Wednesday April 26, was moved to the Shaker Church for further services. Burial was at the Agency Cemetary 7:00 a.m., Friday, April 27, 1989.
