Nancy Salsman 9:52 Continued on page 8 Buffs prepare for District The Madras White Buffalo track team is beefing up for the district meet and have their eyes on the state meet which will be coming up later in the month. The district meet for the Greater Oregon League will be held at Mac High in Milton Frcewater, and the state track meet site is Mt. Hood Community Col lege in Gresham, Oregon. Just completing a meet at Cas cade in Stayton, located in the Wil lamette Valley, the team has not submitted results at this time. A meet in Gilcrest in scheduled for Friday, and hopefully the scores will improve their overall perfor mance when it's time for the dis trict meet. The Buff track team is a very young team but shows a lot of promise for the future. At the pres ent time there is a good chance for them to pick up points in the sprints, hurdles and relay races, right now the team'is preparing for the district meet with some of the main point producers being Troy Craig sets another record The girls golf team traveled to Glaze Meadow Golf Course to take part in the Black Butte Invita tional Friday, April 21. Shauna Craig beat the girls high school record set at Glaze Meadow by four, firing only eleven over par. Bend won the tournament with a 368 team total. The Buffs placed second, tallying 426 points. Crook county was third with 438. Red mond pulled fourth scoring 451 as a team while Mt. View was fifth at 573. Craig played her game taking medalist honors, shooting 83. Other top five finishers include: Dana Kirk of Bend who tallied 89; Kacie Clark also of Bend: and, Madras' Jeanette Lindgren tied for third, one stroke behind Kirk; Also from Bend, Becca Giersdorf was fifth Boy's golf team The boy's varsity golf team par ticipated in the Crook County Invitational at Prinevile Golf and Country Club Tuesday April 25. Due to rain the tournament ended after nine holes. Bend won the tournament with a 147 score. Madras placed second totaling 159 points. Redmond was third at 165. Mt. View was next with 166. Crook County placed fifth tallying 182 while Burns fol lowed with a 188 score. The top five individual placers include first place medalist honors Buff girls split twin bill with Banks The girls varsity softball team hosted Banks Saturday April 22 as they fell one game short of a day's victory. The Buffs took a two to nine loss as the Braves pulled ahead in the late innings of the first con test. Lynn Tanewasha took the loss for the Buffaloes. Christel Leonard was two for three at the place while DeAnn Cuddeback collected the two Runs Batted In. Course is determined by runners prior run April 13. ( 1 a. Others who are capable of picking up points and could do very well include Vernon Squiem phen, distance runner, Jake Cooc hise in the pole vault and long jump and Tony Holiday in the discus and shot put. Girl's track The girls track team does not have too much depth but they do have point producers like Ellen Blincoe in the sprints, Margie Durette in the middle distance, Nikki Warner in Held events, Emily Ralls in middle distance, Becky Soliz in the distance and several other who do well in their events. The girls will enter the district meet and try to get as many points as they can and hopefully qualify some to go to the state meet. with 92. Craig led the Buffs with a 40-43-83 score. Lindgren shot a 44-46-90. Other Buff golfers were Dana Gephart who carded a 53-44-97 score and Merle Kirk who brought in a 76-80-156. The lady Buffs then played host in their own invitational held at Kah-Nee-Ta Golf Course Saturday April 22. Shauna Craig.again orWop was four over par 73vshootfeiJZ7 for the day. Bend again took the tournament with 364. Crook County collected 443, good enough for second place honors. Oregon City placed third, tallying 454 with Redmond three strokes behind taking fourth while Madras was incomplete. 2nd at CC meet going to Ed Keaton of Bend who carded 35. Lonnie Damon of Mt. View was in second at completion of nine with 36. Third place posi tion was a split between three which included Franz Miller and Scott Blackshear of Bend and Kevin Story of Madras who made a three-way tie at 37. Other Madras golfers include: Danny Story who fired 40; Otis Johnson turned in 39; Joe Zachary scored 43; and, Eldo Badten re corded 55 for the White Buffaloes. The MHS defense then came back in the second game with Cud deback playing excellent defense on third base, stopping everything in her direction. Marty Schmith was the pitcher for game two.
