PAGE 6 March 10, s Buff girls The Way I Seen It" The Madras White Buffalo girls basketball team have split the scr ies with Vale, the league and top rated team in the state. They sound ly trounced the Vale Vikings 69-53 to end up in second place in the GOL final standing. The win put a lot more confi dence in the girls as they enter the state play-offs in Salem. In the game with the Vale Vikings, the first quarter was pretty much on the up and up for both teams as they played pretty even. But then in the second quarter the girls sort of broke loose and ran away from the visiting Vikings. Once they got their jump it was all a Madras game after that with Vale on the catch-up side of things. Vale could n't get anything going while the Buff girls momentum went sky high. The Vale Vikings were in a situation where their reputation as No. I rated team in the state put a lot of pressure on them and the Buffs with nothing to lose as far as ranking is concerned made minc emeat out of the Vikings. In the second halt the Butts pretty much had their own way of things. One good move they made was using Boys AA Basketball Tournament Begins Tuesday, March 14 at Buffs earn spot at State The Buffalo boys basketball team ended in a deadlock with the Nyssa Bulldogs for second place in the GOL with each having a 8 win and 4 loss record. On Tuesday, March 7, 1989, they had their play off game on a neutral court which was in the Burns Hi school gym. The game could have gone either way right up until the last second where they put up a three pointer that went astray as the final buzzer Third run scheduled The Warm Springs Reservation Runners are sponsoring their third run on March 25 at Kah-Nee-Ta beginning at 10 a.m. Entries will be taken from 8:30 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. at the Village Entrance parking lot. Courses are two miles and four miles, with water station at the one mile marker. Course is out and back on pavement. Cost is $3 per individual. Awards will be given. The club is currently planning on becoming involved in the "Just Say No Run", sponsored by Warm Springs Elementary and the Alcohol and Drug Program on May 12. The Runners are conducting a raffle to help Stan Kneeland go to Boston and back. Stan qualified to run in the famous "Boston Mara thon" in April. It is hoped that Help send Stan to Boston! Raffle tickets are $1 each Items on the raffle are: Pendleton Blanket, Baby Pendleton Blanket, Beaded Buckle, Beaded Moccasins, Embroidered Pillow Cases, Homemade Quilt, Necklace and Earrings, Beaded Buckle, $100, Two Pair Earrings, Seafood Basket, Jam and Jelly Basket, Blue Quartz Watch, Black Quartz Watch and Headphones Raffle will be held April 1 1 1989 pilyay Tymoo topple state's No. 1 the bench which kept the team in good fresh shape throughout the game. This gave all the players some time to catch their breath and all contributed better as a team. As many a good winning coaches say, The key to a successful team is by having a good bench, a team can't win titles with just five players." That is good advice for all kids to learn that no one is so great that they can't get along with out them. The Madras girls handled Vale as thouoh thev (the Buffs) were No. I. Angie Namenuk led the scoring White Buffaloes bomb Mac Hi "The Way I Seen It" The Madras White Buffalo boys basketball team clobbered the Mac Hi Pioneers in the final game of the season by the score of 78-44. The win was very important which put them in a tie for second place with the Nyssa Bulldogs. The Buffs wasted no time jumping out to a 26-14 first quarter lead and were in no trouble after that. As the first half ended the Buffs were sit ting on a 42-23 lead. There was no pitty shown in the third quarter as the White Buffaloes out scored sounded ending the game with the final score Madras 54, Nyssa 53. The win advances the Buffaloes on the state tournament which gets underway Tuesday, March 14, 1989 where they enter as the No. 2 seed from the GOL. In the play off game Sophomore Eric Petersen led the scoring with 25 points, Jeff Cordill 17, Aaron Schneider 6 Curt Cosgrove 4 and Harris 1. people will help with the fundraising efforts to help send Stan. The club is also planning the Pi-Ume-Sha run during Pi-Ume-Sha weekend in June. Any comments or suggestions are welcome. Club officers are Oliver Kirk, chairman, Francelia Miller, co chairman, Val Squiemphen, second co-chairman and Sandra Greene, secretary treasurer. If interested in joining the club, contact any of the officers for an application. As of February 1 1 , the club had 46 mem bers. New members are still being sought. There is no age limit for membership and people don't neces sarily have to be runners to join. The next meeting is scheduled for March 9 at 5:30 p.m. in Confer ence Room 3 in the New Admin istration Building. The Buff girls ended up the sea son in second place and are the No. 2 seed to the state tournament with their first game against Siuslaw who are the defending champ ions of last year. The game time was at 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 8. Mac Hi 12-8 and ran wild in the final quarter scoring 24 while Mac Hi could only get 13. It's always good to perform be fore the hometown fans and it sort of sparks the boys to show what they are capable of doing. There were four Buff players who hit double figures led by Eric Petersen 17, Jeff Cordill 16, Casey McKin sey 14, Aaron Schneider 13, Jones 5, Earnest 4, Eborall 3, Segovia 3, Collins 3, Comingore 2, Moses and Cosgrove. The game was a hard played game as the Siuslaw Vikings were deter mined to show they were tops. The Buff girls wouldn't- give arHnch either and played the game right down to the final buzzer. There will be trophies awarded for first, second, third and fourth place. Sweatshirts will be awarded to the Champions and Tee-Shirts will be given to second, third, fourth and to the SDortsmenship. The Buffs second game will be against St. Helens who earlier defeated Central by the score of 58-44, with the game time sche: duled for 7 D.m. Thursday, March 9. Player,-Mr Hustle, Atta-Boy, and Mr. Hotshot. This is an open tournament to anyone for boys 13 and under. All boys must provide identification as to their age group. The entry fee is $80.
