J , , ,1 Page 4 juiyis.im E Coosh EEWA Proposal establishes museum o w-...:u.-.c..,r Muum and the National Museum Senator Movnihan and Senator Inouyc recently reached an agreement on a proposal that would provide for the establishment of the National Museum of the American Indian at a federally-chartered institution to be administered and operated by the Smithsonian Institution on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The agreement would also autho rize a long-term lease of the U.S. Custom House at I Bowling Green in New York City to house the Native American collection of the Museum of the American Indian Heye Foundation of New York. The agreement further provides for a financial commitment by the City of New York and the State of New York for the capital construction and operating costs associated with the Heye Museum's occupancy of the Custom House. Under the terms of an affiliation agreement between the Heye Parenting classes offered Keep our culture and heritage strong through our child ren. First time parents, teenage parents and expecting par ents are invited to attend parenting classes at Warm Springs Youth Services office. The classes will cover, but are not limited to, traditional child rearing techniques, early childhood development, discipline, nutrition and special issues concerning first time and teenage parents. The class will be every Wednesday beginning July 13th from 1:30 to 3 30 in the afternoon. Babysitting will be provided. People interested in attending classes, but who are are unable to attend during the day, please contact Youth Services. If there is enough interested, an evening class may be started. When they returned to the landing one guy said, "I sure wish we could find that spot again." The other guy said, "No problem, I marked the spot with an "X" on the side of the boat." The Moynihan-Inouye agreement pro vides for the the establishment of a memorial to the American Indian to honor and commemorate the contributions made by Indians and Alaska Natives within the National Museum, and authorizes a task force to study and make recom mendations to the Congress rela tive to the disposition of Native American skeletal remains currently in the possession of the Smithson ian's Museum of Natural History. We remember just at powwow To the Editor, Elsie Marie "Quiesina"Samand her family would like to thank eve ryone who made it possible for her to be the "Lil Miss Eagle Spirit" queen last August. We do know that it takes ticket sales for a raffle to make a powwow. The Eagle Spirit powwow is run by the Wal sey family which very proudly do fund raising for their powwow. With the family support, Elsie I -)t to reign over Eagle Spirit for this year her uncles and their spouses, aunts and their spouses. Her grand parents all backed her up as well. They are too numerous to put on paper but we will not forget. During her rei'gn,fclsie was sad dened with the death of two of her aunts. The family will be at the powwow August 26, 27 and 28 will have her give away Friday evening. Thank you all and hope to see you at the powwow August 25, 26, 27 and 28. July 4 activities appreciated To the Editor, The Warm Springs 4th of July activities were made possible by the following people. In 1986, United Indians added the missing ingredient to Scafair; the Scafair Indian DaysTipi Encamp ment and Powwow. Last year we honored the Yakima Nation, and hosted approximately 10,000 vis itors during our three-day event held at our Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center in Seattle's beauti ful Discovery Park (formerly Ft. Lawton Army Base). Vernon Squiemphen, Gary Samp son and John Mitchell to help get everything set up. Others that helped: J.R. & Jon Smith, Raymond Wells, Rosemary Charley, Kristina Samp son, Sammi Squiemphen, Percy & Edison Yazzie, Vesta Johnson, Gladys and Thurman Squiemphen. Hopefully, I haven't forgotten any one, but if I have, I apologize. We do appreciate any and all help that we had over the weekend. how hard she had worked to make past races a success, it was because she held the deepest respect for Tribal Councilman Harold Culpus and Chief Nick Kalama. Our family will hold the 50 silver dollars prize for the next three years in memory of our loved one. This year the winner of the prize was Joyce Suppah of Warm Springs, she was the only female rider in this year's race. The silver for the prize was donated from a collection of silver that she and her brother, Levi had collected. The beautiful memorial for her makes her memory even more won derful and we thank you again. She will live with us forever.
