The head lights have been painted, tires have been flattened and wires have been broken on the vehicle as well. One guard had his hand injured after being struck by rocks. Another guard was injured when he was alle gedly pinned against his vehicle by an employee with a fork lift. Another guard had the windshield of his personal car broken out. The guards Organizational News Briefs OTSSYP office news by Margie Earl Coneradulations is extended to the youth who participated in the Warm Springs S jmmer Youth Em ployment Program, and to their parents who woke the youth up each morning to make it to work. Thanks is extended to the finan cial supporter's: Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, the U.S. Depart ment of Labor, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs Forestry Department. With your support the program was able to employ 160 Native American Indian youth. The 1987 year offered a 4 day Kah-Nee-Ta Training which addressed Resort Training before the 8 week work experience pro gram and after the work program held a 3 day "Miss Warm Springs Camp" utilizing local Native Ameri can speakers, tribally trained staff, and the Extension staff. In addi tion to the training and work expe rience we entered the Jefferson County Parade, didn't place but gained experience in paper mache, painting and drawing. Tires for sale The Tribal Vehicle Pool has a stock of used tires for sale. Tribal Members will be given first choice on buying the tires. Ron Suppah, vehicle pool manager, said the tires will sell for $5 and up. depending on the condition of the tire. Suppah stated tires sizes available are: 75-xl6, 8.75x16.5, it will be on a first-come, first-sale basis. (e) In the event an accident inves tigation and report indicates opera tor negligence resulting in damages to the tribal vehicle, property, or in injuries, the driver will be held personally responsible for the first $250 in damages. The operator will be given a written warning for the first violation of this particular policy issued by his or her branch manager. A second violation of this particular policy within three (3) years will be grounds for imme diate termination, in addition to being held personally responsible for the first $250 in damages. (f) A driver charged with negligence involving an accident may appeal such charge to the Safety Board, whose decision is final. The Safety Board will consist of five members appointed by the Secretary-Treasurer to serve two (2) year terms. The driver must be given the opportunity to present any testimony, evidence or witnesses in his or her behalf, and reserves the right to have legal counsel present at his or her personal expense. The Safety Board's decision will be issued in writing no more than five (5) w orking days after the hearing. Warm Springs Tribal Court Howlak Tichum Ruth (Jackson) Estabrook Ruth (Jackson) Estabrook. one of the oldest members of the Con federated Tribes of Warm Springs, died August 24, I987 at Mt. View Hospital. She was born in Warm Springs May 15. l899toJamesand Mary (Cree) Jackson. In I922, theyearof her marriage to Joe Estabrook. Ruth and Joe moved to The Dalles where they fished for a living. Thirty-five years later in 1957, they returned to Warm Springs to ranch at their home on the Metolius Bench. Ruth was a homemaker. She was bap tised a Catholic in The Dalles but attended the Presbyterian Church in Warm Springs. She enjoyed tra veling and liked being involved in things that were happening. Ruth was preceded in death by Joe October 7. 1980. Also preced ing her in death was her brother Charlie Jackson on May 5. 1980 4- visit Sept. 25 Springs at the Community Coun seling Center. Surviving Ruth are five nieces, Mildred Tyler, Myrtle Monroe, Zelma Smith, Catherine Courtney and Estelle Lawson and four nephews. Max Jackson. Zane Jack son, Alvis Smith, Sr. and Claude Smith, Sr. Also surviving is a cou sin and close friend, Mary Phillips and close friends Harvey Scott and Alice Scott. Dressing ceremonies, conducted by Estelle Lawson and Margaret Boise, were held August 25 at Madras Evergreen Chapel. She was then taken to the Warm Springs Presbyterian Church where even ing services were held. Funeral Services were held at the Church August 26 followed by burial at the Agency Cemetery with Nelson Wallulatum officiating. i
