Early Childhood relates department activities
The parent Club of the Early
Childhood Programs are now sel
ling t-shirts for the Headstart. Head
startday care, tribal preshool, and
child development programs. They
are white with turquoise lettering
and come in the following sics:
youths-extra small, small, medium
and large. Adult sics run from
small to extra large, and there is a
limited number of shirts for the
adults. Youth t-shirts sell for $6.00
and adults sell for $7.00. You may
purchase these t-shirts at the Child
Development Center Day Care office,
or at the Head Start office.
F'arentsguardians. you may come
to the Headstart office to register
your child for our Head start and or
tribal preschool programs for the
1987-88 school year. If your child
turns 3 or 4 four years old on or
before September 1 . 1987, then you
may register your child for our
program. If this will be his her first
time in our programs, you will also
be required to get a physical exam
ination and immunization, and your
registration packet for cither pro
gram which can be picked up at the
Head Start Office. We encourage

Vehicle Pool policies continued-
3.1 Priority use
The Vehicle Pool Manager may
assign vehicles for program use
based on related need. Appeals
may be made to the Enterprise
Manager, whose decision will be
final.
3.2 Special vehicles, licenses, permits
(a) A chauffeur's license is required
drivers who transport persons as a
public service, other than tribal
employees.
(b) Tribal police and Fire and
Safetv have their own requirements

The Early Childhood Education
program also has cookbooks for
sale for $8.00 each. These cook
books were put together by staff
"and parents within the program
with real good and fun recipes.
These cookbooks are excellent for
gifts, and for those who enjoy read
ing cookbooks and collecting them.

we will be glad to help you.
The Head Start office has alot of
books to give to any one who is
interested in old books to read or
collect. The books are yours free!

If you have had your child's
name on our waiting Child Devel
opment waiting list, and have not
form. Even the reimbursement lor
any expenses over the Travel
Advance. It is on the back of the
same Travel Authorization. If you
go over the amount advanced to
you for travel you can turn in your
receipts along with the back of the
goldenrod copy of the travel autho-

start exercising so he would be in
top shape for the competition. He
has continued to exercise daily
thus earning him the title of July
Exerciser of the Month.
Even after the finals ever over in
Albuquerque, New Mexico, he con
tinued to exercise because he found
that in preparing for the finals with
exercise he had a weight-loss, mus
cle growth and his wife Gladys
encouraged him to continue with
the exercise regiment.
He now exercises everday, spend
ing an average of 1 8-20 hours weekly.
Terry stated he has benefited from
exercising physically with weight
loss; he now eats more nutritional
and healthier meals; he has more
muscle tone with more energy and
less stress; and exercising has become
a "family project" for him, his wife
and three sons, Thurman, Vernon
and Phillip. Terry's goal is to run a
marathon.
Terry feels, at times that he lacks
the necessary time he would like to
put into his program. To overcome
his lack of time he exercises twice
as hard whenever he gets a chance.
He actively takes part in run
ning, rodeo, basketball, fun runs.
He and his family all participated
in the annual mini-marathon held
in April. The Squiemphens all take
part in fun runs, competing in
rodeos, cutting firewood, swimming,
bike riding, sledding, hunting, fish
ing and he adds shopping (whew).
He advises people to wake up
each morning and say. "I can," and
"never say never." He added peo
ple need to "believe in their
abilities they are always at your
side."

The Early Childhood Education

Washington. D.C. finishing up her
Masters program, and we would
very much like tocongratulate Julie
on completing her second Master's
degree from The Bank Street Col
lege of Education in New York
City. Julie Master's degree is in
Day Care Administration and Super
vision Master's program. We really
missed her but are very proud of
Julie for this great accomplishment
she has met. Consratulations Julie!

It is important to save all your
receipts, to verify that you went

you are ready to go on a trip for a
conference or for training, you
must submit the combined form
along with a copy of the agenda or

request to prevent any delays in
processing your checks. If there is
no agenda or brochures available
and arrangements were made by
phone, this has to be verified by
your supervisor in writing.
As for the Per Diem rate, I will
be sending to the Branch heads the
latest copy of the High Rate Per
Diems. If you do not get one within
a weeks time, call the Accounting
department and we will see that
you get a copy. If a city where you
are going is not listed on the high
rate area, then the Per Diem is
$44.00. If you know that the hotel
rate is going to be higher than the
allowed Per Diem, then there is the
option to check out a VISA Credit
COCC seeking secretary
The COCC office in Warm Springs
is looking for a secretary to work
20 hours per week. The hours are
flexible and the pay is over $5.00
per hour with benefits. There is
also professional improvement and
an opportunity to learn how to use
a computer and a Xerox 620 memory
typewriter. The work is enjoyable

VISA credit card, you go through
the same procedure and you will
not be allowed any Per Diem. You
will be allowed the regular Travel
Costs. (Mileage or plane fare.) You
cannot charge Plane Fare to the
VISA card.
But, always, keep all your receipts.
Just in case you do go over the
advanced amount. You will not be
reimbursed unless you produce all
the receipts and it shows that there
is an excess amount over the Per
Diem allowed.
Lately, there has been questions
with regards to the rates that the
Committees have as compared to
the Employees' Per Diem Rate.
They have a different rate. You will
go by Per Diem rate that is handed
out to you. These are taken from
the Bureau of Indian Affairs and
are set by Federal Regulations.

check request for your Registra
tion Fees and Dues in advance.
These are to be paid directly to the
Organization in charge of the con
ference. These also need back-up
to verify the amount of the fee

Finance notes change
Beginning August I, 1987, indi
viduals will no longer be allowed to
charge airfare, on personal flights,
through the Tribes. Individuals must
make the reservations with, and
payment to, the airfares or travel
agent.

by the Tribal Council as a donation
may be booked through the Steno
Pool secretaries. Payment will be
made by the Tribes and charged to
the donations budget.

4.1 Accidents
(a) All accidents must be reported.

4.0 Misuse and abuse
(a) Any person misusing or abuse

ing privileges and will be held per

$250. A warning will be issued by
the Safety Board notifying the driver
of possible job loss if further viola
tions occur. A second violation of
this type will result in immediate

(b) The Vehicle Pool Manager
has the responsibility to park, secure
and lock any tribal vehicle that is
being misused or abused and to
report such infractions to the viola
tor's immediate supervisor and

(c) When operating a tribal vehi
cle, any person found guilty of
reckless driving, willful misconduct,
or driving under the influence of
drugs or alcohol, shall have their
driving privileges immediately sus
pended for one year and may be
terminated from tribal employment,
depending upon the seriousness of
the violation.

Six-year-old Elsie Sam is a can
didate for the Eagle Spirit Court.
She and her family are selling tickets

Spirit celebration will be held August

Elsie is the daughter of Robert
and Marella Sam and is of Warm
Springs Yakima descent. Her pat

effective tool in helping communi
