and mop up a grass fire near the He He Longhouse on Saturday, June 6. Two police officers, two trucks from
Fire and Safety and two Fire Management trucks responded to the fire. Fire conditions on the reservation are
extremely high this year according to a spokesperson for Fire Management.

Alice Vernice ( Wannassay) Luce
ro, died at Mt. View Hospital in
Madras, Oregon June II. 1987.
She was a member of the Confed
erated Tribes of Warm Springs.
She was born November 26. 1932
to Jason and Ida (Palmer) Whan
nassay in Toppenish. Washington.
Alice was raised in Warm Springs
and lived most of her life there. She
lived in Nevada for several years.
On March 15. 1966 she married
Fred Lucero in Madras, Oregon.
She was a member of the Presby
terian Church in Warm Springs.
Alice a traditional person who
enjoyed the outdoors and enjoyed
spending time picking and Father
ing traditional foods. She also
enjoyed Wasco dancing.
Survivors are her husband, Fred;
a son Leander Lucero. two daugh
ters, Ernestine Spencer Starr and
Vivian Youngman Yahtiri; three
foster children, Ralph, Gerald and
Vernice S witzler; two brothers. Nel
son Wallulatum and Merris Wal
lulatum; a sister. Viola Kalama;
and eight grandchildren.
Dressing ceremonies were held
June 12 at the Agency Longhouse
in Warm Springs with overnight
ceremonies following. Prosanna
Williams officiated. Burial was at
the Agency Cemetery with tunrise
