Jimmy Tohet joined the new joiners' ceremonies
For all things there is a time and
the place for powwowing during
the month of February was at the
annual Simnasho Lincoln's Birth
day powwow held at Simnasho,
Oregon February 13, 14 and 15,
1987.
People from throughout the
western states and Canada traveled
to the annual powwow held at the
small community of Simnasho. Many
people entered the contest dances
to compete for the championship
title and monies. This year a special
ceremony was held on Friday,
February 1 3 for those dancers who
were new joiners to the Longhouse.
A wedding was held Friday, Feb
ruary 13 with Capt. Ray Moody,
son of Enie and Charlotte Herk
shan marrying Winona Garrison
of California in a traditional wed
ding ceremony.
Connie Daniels, daughter of Kate
Jackson was selected as the queen
of the powwow. Connie, 1 3, attends
Madras Junior High School and is
in the eighth grade. Her attendants
were Elizabeth Culps and Susan
Gilbert.

The Warm Springs Fire and Safe
ty department will offer a Public
Education course March 18, 1987
at 7 p.m. on "Fire extinguishers in
the home."The course is free to all.
Training will be held at the Agency
Firehall located on Warm Springs
Street.

Medical course to be held
A First Responder Course will
be offered starting on Saturday,
February 28, 1987 at the Fire
Management training building. The
course is offered by the Warm
Springs Fire and Safety department.
Cost for the course is $25 plus
the cost of a book and workbook.
The course will consist of a total of
48 hours. Of the 48 hours a total of
Artists fo perform
40 hours is required to receive
certification.
The course is designed to cover
material beyond the First-Aid class
and not to the level of the Emer
gency Medical Technician.

Springs Community Center March
6 at 7:00 p.m.
The multi-cultural team from
Brigham Young University in Prove
Utah is making a tour of Califor
nia. Nevada and Oregon. Members
include dancers from 20 different
cultures including Latin America,
Polynesia and North America per
forming both traditional and con
temporary dance and music.
To offset the cost of bringing the
Lamanite Generation to Warm
Springs a raffle is being held. Sales
are just beginning and tickets may
be purchased at the Culture and
Heritage office for 32 prizes being
offered including cash prizes and
two nights at Kah-Nce-Ta.
Memorial Feb. 28
A memorial will be held for Clif
ford "Bubbits" Wesley at the
Wapato. Washington longhouse at
noon Saturday, February 28. The
dinner is being put on by Wesley s
brother Jimmy Wesley.
