Just because a student gets on the bus doesn't mean that he's in school. Poor grades will prevent any child from athletic participation. Attendance is very important: The follow ing is part of a letter sent out to all parents which reads: If a student arrives late to school missing Guide or any classes, the student is deemed absent from that class. If the absence is due to one of the following reasons, that absence will be excused, (a) it is caused by a student's illness; (b) there's an illness in the student's family, or (c) there's an emergency. In such cases, parents should send a note to school with the student upon his return. Among the most common reasons that are unexcuseable reason's are: 1. My parents did not wake up in time to bring me to school. 2. 1 missed the bus; or 3. overslept. Gare, concern To all of my beloved family and friends, You'll never know how much I love life and each of you who have shown honest concern for me dur ing my lifetime. Since my first open-heart surgery to my most recent accidents, I haven't known the anxiety I have put you all through. I love you all, my mom, my stepfather Jim, Aunt Liz, Charlotte, Lana, Delphine Scott and Uncle Leroy for sticking by me. Mom told me many people called, I appreciate that. It is because of the life I have chosen that has resulted in mishaps, a life of uncer tainty and sometimes causes me to be in the limelight. I love to see the happiness in your faces when I win or place. I won the "outstanding dress mounted individual" at the 1986 Deschutes LV Toe Sign in a restaurant window, which both starve." W Now that school is well under way and back on schedule for another year and the summer season something of the past, the future events can become very critical, especially if child ren miss school. It is very impor tant for the parents to see that their child attends school ever yday. It's bad to get behind on ' any class and it makes it harder to keep up with the rest of the class. All school have various rules and regulations that they follow . to keep right on schedule. Some times it becomes necessary for the child to keep doctor's appoint ments and the parents should be ready to see that their child makes each appointment. The school can't do your leg work for you. appreciated County Fair. I appeared in many county fairs all summer. My high light was winning the featured "Son Son Heath Memorial"at the Wasco County Fair in Tygh Valley. I got to share in the other races, placing second while my cousin Sonya Scott won in the "Tina Ann Heath Memorial Squaw Race" and plac ing second when Jeffery Frank won the "Lloyd Woodside Memor ial race" at Tygh Valley. How ironic for us all to share in the mishaps during the Pendleton Round-Up, it was like we were all racing for the "Golden Gates" and not for the golden cup at the end of our race. Now I am sharing in the anxiety of Jeffery's family for his recovery. I hope my family and friends continue to stand by me. I love you all, Eliza Greene Naht-Tuum-Tayakt Ness said: 'If you don't eat here, well SS Protect our children To the Editor, Who protects the rights of child ren? Child abuse and neglect is being over-looked, violations are swept under the carpet, violators are hiding behind their rights, their attorneys and their denials. Nation al statistics show that approxi mately one out of four females and one out of seven males has expe rienced seXual abuse, who cares?!? Someone should care, everyone should be concerned because you never know who the next victim will be. If it happens in your family, will you ignore it, accept it, tolerate it, ordo something to protect some one you love? When a case of child abuse or neglect is made public, where is the attention focused? Recently, the Bend Bulletin featured a story of a young male victim who shot his abuser(excuse me, alleged abuser). Who would you blame, or more precisely, who would you believe? The people of our nation opposed the Viet Nam War when the casual ties were brought into their homes Andrew continues through memory To the Editor, These words will be very meaning ful to the children and grandchild ren of Andrew David. He was a grandpa to all children, he didn't always know some of the young people who came up to him to shake his hands and say "Hello Grandpa" but it pleased him very much. In the state of Washington and in the Umatilla country this was especially true, young people were always hugging him or shak ing his hand. They showed their love and respect for him openly, he really appreciated it. He has left a big, empty space in all of our lives. He was our teacher and our counselor, an example of how we should live our lives. He was our stronghold of life. He spoke good, strong meaningful words whenever he talked to a group of people. When he spoke he hoped that someone would grasp his words of wisdom and his teachings and make use of them. Some people listened and used his words but there were some who took his words as an insult or an accusation or in other different ways. He left it up to the individual to take his words as they chose. There were at times words said against his reli gion and his ways of teaching but he took all of these words standing up. He hever backed down to any one's bads words, all he said was to pray for them. He was a very dedicated spiritual No vote on To the Editor, This letter is regarding Ballot Measure No. 5, better known as the "Marijuana Initiative," which is to be voted on in the General Election, November 4, 1986. The way the question is written could be misleading so it's necessary voters understand the question: Question: Shall law forbid per mits, licenses and criminal penal ties for possessing or growing of marijuana for personal use? A "yes" vote means that you favor the legalizing of the growing and possession of marijuana for personal use. A "no" vote does not change the law and will continue to prohibit the possession or growing of mari juana for personal use. The Warm Springs Alcohol and Drug Council has reviewed the Oregon Marijuana Invitiative would like to recommend the following to the commmunity of Warm Springs; Vote "No" on Measure No. 5, the through television and stirred into action by television reports on Ethiopia, but what about casual tics of child abuse and neglect here and now? The sad commentary is that a child abuse charge is believable if the abuser is in a lesser social, eco nomic, or politicl position. Such activity is unthinkable and could not be done by people or happen in the families that are the pillars of our communit y. Who will dare to report a child sexual abuse when it results in legal and bureaucratic manipulation; being chastised or shunned in the community; disillusionment and frustration? This is made more unsettling by the fact that some vic tims will protect the offender(s). Small children don't lie because they simply cannot make up such happenings. But, who will believe the words of a child over the words of adults, especially if they're recru ited or employed by the offender and who would dispute the opinion of someone that could be your supervisor, tribal leader, or any man who held a lot of faith in his Creator. He dedicated his life to helping others with his prayers and good teachings. He never turned away anyone who came to his home when they came seeking help of any kind. He wanted all people to know that he believed in God in whatever way they chose to wor ship, whether it be the drums, bells, feathers, books or whatever. He never once condemned anyone's way of worship. He invited eve ryone to his home to conduct and hold services anytime they desired. He loved to listen to the Good Word, whoever spoke it. We would like to express our love and gra titude and mainly sup port to all the people who are care takers of a grandpa, grandma or an Elder or someone that is unable to care for themselves. It takes a lot of commitment on your part, you give up a lot of your outside world to care for your loved ones. There are times when depression sets in, strain, stress and tension. This is only natural but the rewards are great afterw ards knowing what you gave. So if there are young adults who have grandparents, please take the time to go sit and talk with them, they enjoy this more than anything. We would like to thank all the people who offered their support during the illness of our father, also through the funeral and after the funeral. To the Editor, I would like to take this oppor tunity to say "Thank You" to all of the senior citizens, senior citizen representatives and chaperones as well as to Che young children of the seniors, all whom made my 71st birthday September 6, 1986, a very happy occasion for me. They helped me by remembering my birthday while I was away from home and in another country. They helped to make it a very happy birthday. They gave me a very special birth day present, a memory I shall never forget, ever. Thank you for all the money you contributed, it was Canadian money and I brought it all home with me. I knew I would be at Expo '86 on my birthday and I had planned to spend a happy day at the Expo. I surely enjoyed the day with the group I was with. Again my heartfelt thank you to each and everyone of you who went on the senior citizen trip to Expo in Vancouver, B.C. Your friendship and companion ship on the trip were super. "God Bless each and everyone of you, "The happy group." Roscoe Stacona Warm Springs from abuse! person in a professional position.? Many generations have passed and many people have not even been truthful to themselves to admit sexual abuse has existed. Many have been victims, and it's not your fault. But don't allow it to continue. Child abuse and neglect will con tinue to exist and flourish because of community indifference and people who are motivated by polit ical and professional ambitions. No one wants to make waves even at the expense of the many suffer ing children who did not escape abuse. Recently I met with the Com mission on Indian Services to bring to their attention my concern re garding the rights of children and I am pleased that they provided a resolution declaring recognition of the right of children to be protected from abuse and neglect and pledges Commission support and assistance in helping Indian communities to eliminate child abuse and neglect problems. Youth Services is doing good work in addressing this problem by providing professional assistance and support for the entire family as it is a very painful experience for the whole family... I know! So, let's demand that something be done about these problems and to hell with the offenders. Children come first! Although the offenders deserve our most profane sentiments we need to pray for their forgiveness and for our ability to forgive them. The children and their protection should still come first! Marie Calica who they are. We feel that they know how we feel about them. All our love goes out to these special people the people who came down to visit or sit awhile, our father really loved this the most. Another big thanks to all the people sat and supported our sister Allegra in her need when Amanda was critical and in the hospital. All the friends and relatives who showed their love by being there with her was the best medicine for both Allegra and Amanda. Once again thank all of you for being with us in our time of need. Please continue to pray for us dur ing these especially hard times, the time after. We will continue to pray for you also.
