Local bowlers strike it big
in
tourneys
For most avid bowlers, the
season ends with the beginning
of sum m er, but for the
Confederated Tribes women’s
bowling team, it was time to
prepare to travel to the
W o m e n ’s I n t e r n a t i o n a l
Bowling Congress Finals held
in Las Vegas, Nevada. It is a
five-man team with a sixth
member as a substitute. Team
members who participated in
the finals were Angie Boise,
Anna Clements (Captain),
T rudee Clem ents, N orene
Greene, Becky Quinn and
Margie Tuckta, all of whom are
members of the Confederated
Tribes of Warm Springs.
Women’s teams from around
the globe traveled to the annual
tournament to bowl for top
honors. According to Anna,
the team members of her team
did quite, well in representing
the, Tribes. Trudee was the top
money winner for the team
with a 27th place in all-events, a

p.m. and last until 7:30 p.m.

school starts.
Team selections will be made
by September 2. Students will
be notified individually as to
which team they have been
selected,.

North American All-Indian
boxing cham pionships
A North American All-
Indian boxing championship
tournament is scheduled for
November 5, 1983 and will be
held in the Ponderosa Inn,
Great Falls, Montana.
The host boxing clubs are
American Legion Boxing Club,
Browning, Montana and Fort
Belknap Boxing Club, Harlem,
MontaiTa. Sanctioned by the
Montana ABF/USA.
All boxers must have current
a ABF card, cards can be
purchased at weigh-in. Bring
Birth Certificate for proof of
age. Head gear mandatory.
There will be certified officials
used at the meet. Indian
heritage to be verified by coach.
A maximum of two boxers
per weight class per club. All
boxers will be bracketed. The
weight class, open division 16
years and over; 106-112-119-
125-132-147-156-165-178, hea
vy weight, super heavy weight.
Weigh-in is at 8:00 a.m. to
10:00 a,m ...........................
The awards will include:
Jackets, Belt Buckle and chain
for the champions. The runner-
up will receive a sweater and
pin. There is an outstanding
boxer award and a team
trophy.
The meals, there will be $10
provided for each boxer each
day, $10 per coach for four or
more boxers and for two
coaches will be paid after four
boxers are entered. Teams
must arrange for their own
lodging. There will be free
shuttle service from Great Falls
International Airport for those
arriving by air. Please advise
the management if the boxers
will be arriving by air.

paper, include Biographical
information and pictures.

The Confederated Tribes
women’s team bowls each year
in the Tuesday Night Twisters
league at Pelton Lanes in
Madras. They are getting ready
for the winter and fall league to
start in September.
Traveling to a tournament
entails a lot of planning and
money, according to Anna.
The team began to make
plrins to attend the Las
Vegas tournament in 1982.
The one big problem they
faced was getting enough
money to travel. as a team.
The women of the team
started fund raising projects
in the community. They held
bake sales and made beaded
items to sell.'The team gets
its sponsorship from the
Tribe and that covers the fee
for league entry fee and often
shirts. But the travel monies
are left to the team to raise.

that money went to the
travel pot. They will be in
thè community again’ raising
money to attend the 1985
tournament in Los Angeles.
The Ì984 bowl-off will be in
Niagra Falls, New York but
Anna said, “That is a little
bit too far to travel.”

Rodeo Association standings

participating cowboys and
cow girls m ust have their
WSIRA cards by September
18, 1983, during the Schurz
Rodeo, to be able to compete in
the Regionals. The Regional
Finals will be held in Sparks,
Nevada, October 1-2, 1983.
New rules that have been
approved by the board are (1),
Associations that issued bad
checks in 1982 Will be required
to pay out in cash from now on.
(2) Effective June 27, all events
sanctioned by WSIRA will be
drawn for positions, including
rodeos that have set-ups.
Effective July 4, all muggers
and hazers have to be a
contestant and/or a WSIRA
member in good standing. If
Cow'Milkers or Steer Wrestlers
do not comply with this rule,
they will receive a no time.
