Center offers varied activities for youth

Community Center activities during the summer fun program
provide encouragement fo r children to join in activities increasing
their own skiUs and then teamwork skills. Basketmaking, drawini
or indoor hockey are a fe w o f the many daytime activities foi
youth.
Summer evening highlighted by employee picnic
Hundreds of Tribal, IHS, BIAand Kah-Nee-
Ta employees and their families gathered at the
Community Center for the annual employee
picnic July 21. It was an excellent chance for
friends, families and fellow-employees to renew
old acquaintances and catch up on the latest.
The supper, consisting of salmon, fried bread
and juice donated by the Tribes, Was
complimented by many, many salads, main-
dishes and desserts furnished by the employees.
Though the dinner was great, the games
seemed to highlight the evening. A dunk tank
was manned by volunteers. Robert Miller, left,
was one of many who sat astride the platform
and cajoled . those who thought they could
m
make him take a dive. Another feature was the
water balloon toss, below, Partners carefully
tossed the tight balloons to one another, but
many were rusty at tossing and/ or catching
and were eliminated as the balloons burst:
The apparent favorite of the games was the
canoe race. Many speculated before the races
as to what exactly would be done with the long,
PVC pipes. Team members, eight per team ,1
straddled the pipes and raced through the
obstacle course, not once, but twice. Those on
the tail end of the pipes often dropped to the
ground on the curves. Speed was of the
essence, as was strategy. Little thought was
given to common sense.
