Lincoln’s Birthday Powwow hostesses selling tickets

Gayleen Adams
The 14-year old W asco/W arm
Springs/Yakima is the daughter of
Uren and Gwen Leonard. Stacy attends
Madras High School and is a freshman
this year. She plays freshman basketball
and volleyball. She enjoys traveling,
playing her clarinet and particiapating
in sports. She is looking forward to
dancing at the powwow as she feels she
has been away from traditional dancing
for too long. She is an enrolled member
of the Confederated Tribes of Warm
Springs.
The daughter of Myrtle Adams,
Gayleen is an eighth grader at Madras
Junior high school. She lives with her
grandparents Reginald and Beatrice
Winishut in West Hills. The 13-year old
miss lists b asketball, volleyball,
gymnastics and meeting people as
special interests. She is looking forward
to being a part of the annual Lincoln’s
Birthday Powwow February 11,12 and
13. Gayleen is an enrolled member of
the Confederated Tribes of Warm
Springs.
Brigette Scott
An eighth grader at Madras Junior
High School, Brigette is active in
Culture Club and advanced band. She
plays bass clarinet in the band. Brigette
is an avid horseback rider. She also
enjoys powwows, jogging, gymnastics
and volleyball. She is the youngest
daughter of Gordon and Brenda Scott.
Her grandparents are Nick and Viola
Kalama and Elmer Scott Sr. Brigette is
looking forw ard to helping at
the powwow and being a part of the
celebration.
Monica Wahnetah
Monica is the 13 year old daughter of
Katherine Jackson of Warm Springs.
Monica attends Madras Junior High
School and is in the eighth grade. She is
active in the school’s Culture Club and
sports. She is a member of 4-H in Warm
Springs. Monica is the granddaughter
of Isabelle Keo of Simnasho and Mr.
and Mrs. Sam Wahnetah of North
Caroline. Being a part of the powwow
means a great deal to her as it is a goal of
M onica’s to assist the Lincoln’s
Birthday Powwow Committee in
making the powwow bigger and better.
Each o f the hostesses will be in the community selling raffle tickets for the powwow. They will be at each of the
events sponsored by the powwow. Support the powwow by buying tickets from Gayleen, Stacey, Brigette and Monica.

Springs. Smith was allegedly
shot by a younger brother,
Grant Smith, Jr.
The younger Smith was
a r r e s te d , a r r a ig n e d an d
charged on two seperate counts
of assault in Federal Court in
Portland January 17. The
assault charges brought against
Smith were: assault with a
dangerous weapon and assault
resulting in serious bodily
injury.
Smith is being held in
Portland by the U.S. Marshall.
The investigation is being
conducted by the BIA Special
Investigator’s office in Warm
Springs.
Richard Smith is in the
intensive care unit at St.
Charles Medical Center in
Bend and is listed in serious
condition.

The draft of the comprehensive plan was reviewed recently by senior citizens. The plan provides
guidelines fo r the future use o f the reservation. Community members are welcome to attend meetings
of the plan’s discussion scheduled through February.
