Two fires strike homes
Two separate fires in Warm
Springs completely destroyed
one home and heavily damaged
another late Tuesday evening
and early Wednesday morning,
December 14 and 15.
The Warm Springs Fire and
S a fe ty d e p a r tm e n t an d
volunteers were called to the
first fire at the home of Harry
and Mary Hisatake, 314 miles
up the Tenino road, at 10:21
p.m. The Histake family was
returning from . the Warm
Springs Elementary School
Christmas program and when
they opened the door, smoked
rolled out.
The Hisatakes rushed to a
neighbor’s house to phone for
help. According to Jerry Huff,
Fire and Safety Chief, the two-
level home was “completely
and fully involved” upon the
crew’s arrival. “We made a real
good attempt to stop the fire,”
but to no avail.
The only “family member”
home at the time of the fire was
the family’s dog. Huff said the
dog came out of the flaming
house “on fire. We extin
guished the dog and made
arrangements with a vet to take
care of him. Apparently, he’s
doing all right.” There were no
other injuries.
Cause of the fire has not been
positively determined, said
Huff. However, “from all
reports... it was a portable
heater. It will be difficult to
determine because of all the
rubble.”
The Hisatakes lost every
thing in the fire. According to
