Ortiz, Risner share top boxing honors
Joey Ortiz of the Warm
Springs Boxing Club along
with Ron Risner from the
Longview, Washington (LV)
boxing club were named the
outstanding boxers of the
boxing matches held here in the
Community Center November
13.
Despite a hard head butt
from his opponent, Ortiz went
on to pound out a unanimous
decision over Danny Guerra
from the Washington County
boxing club of Aloha, Oregon.
Both boxers weighed 139
pounds, Ortiz with 6 previous
bouts to Guerra’s 12.
Ron Risner of the Longview
boxing club was the winner
over Reynolds Allen W.S.B.C.
by a disqualification because of
u n sp o rtsm a n sh ip co n d u ct
during the match. This bout
could have gone either way if it
were not for the disqualifica­
tion;
Other . action during the
evening saw some exhibition
bouts from boxers as heavy as
45 pounds. Roscoe Thompson
III 6 years W.S.B.C. vs Jacob
Spinal 5 years old of the
Golden Eagle club. Bout two

a draw and each boxer recieved

In the first competition
match, Remo Smith, age 10;
77 pounds no previous bouts
won over Paul Mabee 10; 80
pounds 1 bout, of Bend.

bouts W.S.B.C. lost to Mike
Sharek 13, 103 lbs, 17 bouts,
Beaverton.
Ron Hatfield 13, 88 lbs 6
bouts (LV) beat Tody Bolden
12, 95 lbs 6 bouts of (BV).

bouts W.S.B.C. beat Bobby
Martin 10, 73 lbs 6 bouts (LV).
After a short intermission
there were a few more
exhibition bouts, the first
matching a pair of middle
weights both from Longview
(LV). Kanim Smith 8, 69
pounds 2 bouts W.S.B.C. vs
Leon Ariza 9, 65 lbs 0 bouts.

draw.

Oregon and the Golden Eagle
boxing club formerly the

department boxing club.

Joey Orth, WSBC getting some good punches in on Danny Guerrea of the W.C. boxing club from
A loha, Oregon. Orth kept pressure on his opponent to win a unanimous decision in the final bout of
the night. There were 15 bouts with the Warm Springs Boxing Club coming out with three wins.
Longview and the Golden Eagle boxing club each had two wins apiece.

Springs will be December 18.

6 foöt-and-under tourney
The Warm Springs Magpies
are hosting a 6 foot tall and
under basketball tournament
in the Community Center
starting at 5 p.m. Friday,
December 3-5.
The first round match up will
put the King Kids of Warm
Springs against Chiloquin at 5
p.m. The second game will
match up Tygh Valley against
Simnasho, the third game
Macy’s vs The Duffs and
Wapato vs Magpies.
Drawing bye’s from the first
round action is Mt. Adams,
White Swan, Sprague River
and the Schlitz Runners.
This is a double elimination.
There will be jackets for the
champions, sweat shirts for the
All-stars, trophies for first to
fourth place, a sportsmanship
trophy, also trophies for the
high scorer and the MVP.
There will be plenty of action
in the Community Center over
the weekend.
Sponsor needed for WSBC
The Warm Springs Boxing
Club (WSBC) is seeking a
sponsor (or sponsors) for an
insurance fee that is required
under the USA American
Boxing Federation regulations
to conduct any boxing match
or tournament.
The Warm Springs Club has
already scheduled (and will
conduct) boxing matches on
Saturday, November 13, 1982
and Saturday, December 18,
1982. Future plans are to
schedule 1 or 2 more boxing
m atches and the A nnual
W SBC B uckskin B oxing
Championships, in which there
will be 135 to 150 boxers
participating.

Insurance fees per event
range from $30.00 for 1 -20
bouts, to $135.00 for 81-100
bouts. C o n trib u tio n s and
assistance is tax deductable
(non-profit organization 501
(c) (3).)—And will be very
much appreciated by the Warm
Springs Boxing Club.
