Jefferson County Girls All Stars State Bound

tournament oh July 15,16, and
17. The Jefferson County All-
Stars dethroned the defending
cham ps, H ood River, to
represent district Five in the
state playoffs on July 26-
August 1 in Hood River. The
other four participating district
teams included Hood River,
Colum bia, Redm ond an d
Hermiston.

Jefferson County All-Star
team member Diana Ohlde,
Culyer, pitched consistently
and maintained the composure
of a big leaguer. Ohlde did not
allow a base on balls and
concentrated on making the
opponents use their bats. Team
defense played a key role in the
decisive victory. Hood River
held all teams scoreless after
their loss to Jeff-County, and
finished in third place. *

Columbia advanced to meet
the All-Stars by defeating
Redmond. In the first inning,
both teams scored one run.
Columbia scored again in the
fourth, and two runs in the fifth
inning. Jeff County did not
score until the fifth and went in
the sixth and final inning down
by a 2-4 Score. In the top of the
sixth with one out, eight runs
were scored before the second
out was made. Four walks and
four runs later, the third out
was finally tagged. Jeff County
went ahead 14-4 and needed
only to hold Columbia to win.
After- a lead off single,
Columbia was held scoreless
with three straight force outs at
second base and the Jefferson
County all-stars celebrated
with overjoyed parents and
attending fans.

to national finals in Denver,
Colorado.

Boys All-Star team

Shauna and Joel, are making
names for themselves on the
young golfer’s circuit.
Eleven-year old Shauna
Craig, a golfer who has been at
the game for only a year, won
the peewee division champion
ship of the Oregon State Junior
Golfer’s tournament sponsored
by th e O regon G o lfe r’s
Association. The three-day
tournament for kids from age
8-17 began July 12 at the
Charbonneau Golf Course in
Wilsonville, Oregon.
Shauna played the game well
and with each day of play, she
improved her game by one
stroke. Shauna’s daily scores
were: 1st day—45; 2nd day—44
and 3rd day—43. There were
nine other girls in her division.
; Twelve-year old Joel was one
among 40 other golfers in his
division. Being even until the*
last hole, his opponent shot a
birdie and Joel shot par. Even
with this fine playing, Joel
came away from the tourney
with second place honors.
Jackpot Rodeo
A ja c k - p o t ro d e o is
scheduled for July 31 and
August 1, 1982, to be held at
Shad and Jack’s rodeo arena
which is located two miles
south of Madras on the old
Culvfer highway. Show time set
for 1:30 p.m. each day.

A Co-ed softball tournament
is planned for Warm Springs
on August 7 and 8. It is hoped
with a tournament being held
in this area it will bring about
an interest in co-ed ball, stated
Tygh Valley coach Ellen
Johnson.
