E Coosh EEWA:
(The way it is)
Letters to the editor
Thank you for sharing
Sir,
I’ve been living here on your
reservation for slightly over a
year and a half. Although not
all my experiences with tribal
members have been successful,
due greatly to my lack of
understanding as well as to the
understandable distrust of
outsiders here, many of my
contacts with the culture have
been warm and caring.
I am a runner and have
enjoyed running on youf many
beautiful roads throughout the
reservation. In my brief stay
I’ve learned to love this land
perhaps as much as many of the
original inhabitants. I have also
learned to care about the
people and the culture with
which I come into contact every
day.
There is much of great value
here in Warm Springs and, as I
am to leave your midst in a
short while, I want to take this
opportunity to thank all of the
people o f this area for
experiences 1 will carry with me
for the rest of my life.
I thank all of the people of
Warm Springs and Simnasho
for extending their kindness
and hospitality to me and
allowing me to grow into a
fuller understanding of myself
in relation to another set of
values, another way of looking
at things.
Sincerely,
Jim Kernaghan
