Madras girl's team defeated at state tourney
The Madras White Buffaloes
made it to state but were
defeated Tuesday night 54-46
by Central High School in the
first round of the class AA high
sc h o o l g i r l ’s b a s k e tb a ll
tournament held in Salem.
Their consolation game played
the following day also resulted
in defeat. They lost to Gold
Beach 41-35.
The Madras White Buffaloes
■ / took the Greater Oregon
League championship with a
league score of 9-1. The one
loss went to Burns at Burns
on Janaury 22. The Madras
team lost by four points.
The team is made up of both
varsity and JV players. “All of
us are a team,” affirmed coach
Bonnie Souers.
According to Souers there
are eight solid varsity players.
The other five players go back
a n d f o r t h . “ S k ill a n d
experience is what counts,”
Souers explains.
During the week preceding
the state tournament games
Souers said the team was doing
much better than she had
expected. “I thought it would
take us two years to get where
we a re.”

as Most Valuable Player and

who scored 28 points over four
games.
The sportsmanship award Ken Billingsly helped the Warm Springs Tribes team win their first place trophy during the 6 Foot
went to the White Swan and Under Basketball Tournament. Billingsly was also named to the all-stars.
