M iss Worm Springs contest.
Lyda Rhoan and Sharon
Katchia walked away with
crowns at the first Lil’ Miss
Warm Springs contest held at
the Community Center the
evening of February 2. The
contest drew a large crowd of
local residents as twelve little
girls competed for the two
division titles.
Each of the divisions had six
contestants. Contestant in the 5
and six year old division
included Lyda Rhoan, Nesbah

Sherylene Boise, Sharon Jones,
Vagelique Jack.
The 3 and 4 year old divisoin
included: Sharon Katchia,
Zanetta Massad, Yvonne Earl,

Josephine Johnson, Char-
maine Tewee and Little Fawn
Suppah.
Lyda Rhoan was selected
queen in the 5 and 6 year old
division. Second place 'was
taken by Nesbah Yazzie.
Sharon Katchia received the
highest number of points in the
3 and 4 year old division with
Zanetta Massad taking second.
The evening began with
warm up dances. Adults
participated to help the girls to
get the feel of things. Many
were inexperienced at public
dancing. Lyda Scott, Miss
Warm Springs, led the girls in
some of the dances and helped
them throughout the contest.
The contestants were judged
on traditional dress and their
abilities in dancing the skip
dance and the circle dance.
They were scored from I to 10,
1 being the lowest, and 10 being
the highest. A panel of six
judges scored the girls. They
were Ursula Little, Ellen
Squiem phen, Lilly Heath,
Clara Moody, Ada Sooksoit
and Susan Moses.
Bernice Mitchell acted as
master of ceremonies. Rudy
Clements, Jacob Frank and the
Pine Grove Juniors drummed
for thé ceremony.
The crowns were contributed
by Geraldine Jim and Lyda
Scott.
The 4 and 5 year o ld division crown went to Sharon Katchia. M iss Warm Springs, LyOaScott, helps
with the queen’s accoutrements.
