Warm Springs Wednesday night bowling
On the night os April 22, Ray
Shike, Jr. rolled a total of 645
to take top spot in the high
individual three-game series.
Dennis Story was second high
with 612, and third place went
to Gene Peles with a total of
597.
In the high invidicual game
Brian Maxwell rolled a total of
249, second went to Ray Shike,
Jr. for his 246, and third place
went to Ray Lengele for his 229
game.
Guy Davis Chev-Olds rolled
a total of 2,779 to take the high
team three-game series. J.R.
Smith Logging Co. came in
second for their 2,683, and
Kah-Nee-Ta was third for their
2,658.
Guy Davis Chev-Olds took
the high team game for their
981, Kah-Nee-Ta rolled 948
and Guy Davis had 944.
The matching for the night of
April 29 was as follows: on

Boxing club travels to Navajo tourney
The Warm Springs Boxing
club traveled to Window Rock,
Arizona, to participate in the
Navajo Nation Golden and
Silver glove boxing tourna­
ment on April 10 and 11. Out of
the 13-man team the local boys
brought home 10 champion­
ship trophies and one runner-
up.
Reynolds Allen got things
going as he earned his
championship by defeating
Antonio Bazea of Milan, New
Mexico. This was the 10-11
year-old, 65-pound class.
Cecil Govenor won the 10-11
year-old, 85 pound class by
decisioning Phillip Chischilly
from the Crown Point boxing
team.
Tony. Stacona didn’t waste
any time in taking out his
opponent. He did it in just 24
seconds in the first round in 90
pound, 10-11 year-old class.
S ta c o n a has been q u ite
effective all season long gaining
the h o n o rs in d iffe re n t
tournaments during the season.
Carl Tewee won the 12-13
year-old, 80 pound title with a
victory over Preston Darper of
C hen ile, A rizo n a. C oach
Gerald Smith said Carl has
improved right along this year,
David Lucei was the winner
of the 12-13 year, 100 pound
class. Lucei knocked his
opponent Ervin Jordan of
Navajo Nation down two times
in the first round, and the
referee stepped in to stop the
bout. For the championship
Lucei was the winner over
Johnson John.
Mervin Govenor was the
only runner-up in the tourney
participating in the 12-13 year
old, 105 pound class. Govenor
lost to Dexter James of the
Navajo Nation boxing team.
Dixon Davis had his first
bout for this year and he
defeated Curt Porando of the
U te b o x in g te a m fro m
Arizona.
Bruce Sam, in the 125-pound
open senior class, won with a
decision over Rubin Murillo of
the Silver City boxing team of
New Mexico.
The .following boxers were
walk-through winners: Cory
Scott in the 10-11 year, 60
pound class; Kevin Blueback in
12-13 year.l 19-pounds; and
Guy Herkshan in the 14-15,132
pound division.
Desmond Tewee lost his
bout to Victor Deer of the Ute
boxing team and Murray
Kalama lost to Gerald Chelan
of Santa Fe. These bouts were
in the preliminaries.
Coach Gerald Smith said
that all the boys did just good
and represented Warm Springs
very well. Smith also added
that the regular season is over
except for the Junior Olimpics
which will beheld June 6 at Mt.
Scott in Portland. He would
like to remind all the boxers
who wish to participate in that
tournament to contact him
(Smith) three to four weeks
prior to that meet for training.
This will be for boys 10 to 15
years old. Winners from 12-15
will advance to the region 12
Junior Olympics tournament

Winners in the 14-15 year-old
class will advance to the
tournament in Ft. Lauderdale,
Florida.

The competition was great,
some real good boxers pleased
the crowd during the two-day
affair. Coach Smith stated that
he plans on retiring as boxing
coach at the end of this season.
He expects Ron Govenor,
Randy Smith and Alvis Smith

Softball tourney set
The Chemawa’s men’s and
women’s softball tournament is
set for May 15, 16, 17, 1981.
Also scheduled on the same
dates is a powwow starting at
6 p.m. to 12:00 p.m. each day
with dance contests and prizes.

Softball for women
T he n o n -c o m p e titiv e
Jefferson County Women’s
Softball Association is now in
the process of forming teams
and securing sponsors. An
opportune time to sign up is
May 5 at 7:30 at Buff
Elementary School.
This is a non-competitive
program for women 18 years of
age and older. Games will be
played one afternoon a week
with no practice sessions. A fee
of $5.00 is charged each player
to compensate for the cost of T-
shirts.

are encouraged to get in touch

a player. The name you choose
or the name of your business
will be printed on a team’s T-

Games will begin in the
summer time at the close of
school and will last for six

which everyone could use some
work and advice. Covert
Bailey, a well known speaker in
the field of fitness, nutrition
and body fat will be speaking
on May 6 at Bend High School
