Accident Takes Life Of Yakima Girl

A tragic, single car accident
claimed the life of Margaret
Lovie Pinkham, 21, March 31,
1979. She was the current “Miss
Yakima Nation” , “Miss NCAI”
and first alternate “Miss Indian
America” .
M argaret was born to Mr.
and Mrs. Joe Jay Pinkham, Jr.
of Toppenish, July 21,1958. She is
survived by her parents, three
brothers and her grandfather
Joe Jay Pinkham, Sr. Margaret
was a 1975 graduate of Toppenish
High School, and a 1978 graduate
of Santa Fe Institute of Indian
Art.
Dressing ceremonies were
held April 1,1979 at the Colonial
Funeral Home in Toppenish.
Overnight services which were
held at the Satus Longhouse were
conducted by Johnson Menninick
and Watson Totus. Burial was
April 3, 1979 at the Satus Point
Cemetery.
Amos Simtustus, Elmer
Quinn and-Aurolyn Stwyer (Miss
NCAI runner-up) were sent by
Tribal council to serve as repre
sentatives for the Warm Springs
people. Council also sent a letter
to the Pinkham family express
ing their sorrow.
