Simnasho Elders Plan Powwow
The Third Annual Lincoln’s
Birthday Powwow has been
scheduled for February 10, 11
and 12 at the Simnasho Long-
house. It is sponsored and plan­
ned by the Simnasho Longhouse
Elders.
The events will include con­
tests for children eleven years of
age and under, teen boys and
girls, and adult men and women.
Special events to be held
are? an auction which will be
held every day when time al­
lows; a raffle drawing every day
(tickets may be purchased daily
from Princess candidates for 25
cents each or in blocks of $5.00);
and on Saturday a trophy will be
given to the best group enter­
tainment. The trophy is sponsor­
ed by Mr. and Mrs. Eugene
Green with additional money
from the Simnasho Longhouse
Elders.
Sunday Washut services will
be held at 10:00 a.m. Later in the
day, the Suppah and George
Clements Families will sponsor
a Robert Suppah Memorial Open
Straight Dance, to be accom­
panied by a give away.
The big raffle will be held on
Sunday after the Robert Suppah
memorial straight dance. Tick­
ets can be purchased from one
of the five princess candidates,
for $1.00 apiece.
The young women hoping to
be crowned Queen of the Lin­
coln’s Birthday Powwow are:
Lorraine Suppah, 13, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Suppah;
Trudee Clements, 15, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Clem­
ents ; Carmel Squiemphen, 16,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl
Squiemphen; Colleen Seelatsee,
16, daughter of Frank Seelatsee
and granddaughter of Ellen
Heath; and Lila Telakish, 20,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James
Telakish.
Drummers and singers, who
will be coming from as far as
Canada and Montana, include
World Champion Badland Sing­
ers from the Ft. Peck reser­
vation in Brocketon, Montana,
the Treaty Six Singers from the
Thunderchild Reserve in Saskat­
chewan, Canada, the Heart
Butte Singers from the Black­
feet reservation in Montana, and
the Snake River Singers from
the Sho-Ban reservation in Ft.
Hall, Idaho.
Nathan Jim Sr. will emcee
the three day activities.
