tourney championship

It was New Year’s Night -
championship night of the 18th
Annual All-Indian B asketball
Tournament - and a somewhat
bemused capacity crowd wat
ched as the team from Bis
mark, North Dakota, attempt
ed to post the first shutout
victory in the tournaments his
tory.
Their opponent, Oakland,
Calif., finally scored in the late
minutes of the first quarter to
m ake the sco re 26-2. As it
turned out, 24 points was as
close as Oakland got to “clos
ing the g a p ” all night. The
contest was pretty well decided
after the first quarter buzzer
sounded, and it w as a downhill
battle the rest of the way for
the bismark Five. Final score:
129-69.
Bismark dominated in all
departm ents throughout the
game - rebounding, field goal
percentage, and defense. Six of
the seven team members scor
ed in double figures, with 6’6”
Center Bob Eaglestaff tallying
a game-high 35 points.
In Consolation action,
Davis, Calif., had a big third
-quarter to finally give them a
com m anding lead
over a
scrappy team from C olville,
Wash. Colville managed to stay
within a point in the first
quarter, 28-29, and drew even
at the half, 51-51.
In the third quarter Davis
literally blew Colville off the
court, outscoring them 39-20 to
take a 90-71 lead . The Suns
then topped it off with a 27
point foui th quarter to win the
gam e 117-93, and take third
place.
This year’s All-Star lineup
