PAGE 6 WARM SPRINGS, OREGON MARCH 19, 1976 Late Birdie Cops Tie Host pro Jim Wilkinson and Orenco assistant Dave Crowe turned in identical 36-hole scores of 129 to tie for first place in the Annual Kah-Nee-Ta Invitational Pro-Am golf tour nament, held March 13th and 14th. Wilkinson and Crowe each won $387.50. Crowe led after the first day’s competition with a 18-hole total of 64, while Wilkinson was two strokes off the pace with a 66 total. Depsite a couple of missed “easy” putts on Sunday, Wil kinson was nevertheless pleased with his final tally of 63 for 18 holes. Having teed off first, he then watched from the clubhouse as Crowe sank his birdie putt on the final hole for a 65 and the tie. Nothwest P.G.A. star, and one of the pre-tourney favor ites, Jerry Mowlds was three stroked back at the finish with a 132 total, and third place, collecting $300.00 Jim Petersen and Tim Berg each came in with final scores of 135 to tie for fourth place. The 1976 Kah-Nee-Ta Invi tational Pro-Am marked the first official usage of the new nine holes that were begun in early 1974. The new nine in cludes four holes that require the golfer to hit across the Warm Springs River, and an other that “dog legs” to the right, around a lake. Little Britches Basketball The Warm Springs Little Britches Basketball team par ticipated in a tournament held March 6-7, 1976, at Pendleton. This was a tournament for boys 12 years old and under. The boys lost their first game to Neah-Bay, Wa., by the score of 38-40, a very close and hard fought game, then coasted to an easy 68-22 win over a Heppner team. They ran into trouble as they lost to LaPush, Wa. Warm Springs placed two boys on the all star team, Jim Scott and Tim Kneeland. The starting five for the local boys were Jim Scott, Tim Kneeland, Mark Johnson, Yah- tin Frank, and Andy Leonard. The rest of the team members are Lurch Scott, Laural La- Mear, Charles Eyle, Maurie Rhoan, and Tracy Leonard. The boys will enter two more tournaments later in the month of March, one will be in Seattle, and the other in Ya kima, Wa. • Rodeo Joe Scott, the son of Zeke and Wilma Scott, won first place in the saddle bronc riding over the weekend of March 6-7, at Choo Choo, Arizona. He scored a total of 53 points to gain top honors in the event. Scott and Ted Hurtado traveled to the southwest to participate in the rodeo; they both did well as Hurtado placed 4th in bull riding. Joe and Ted were to spend the week down there to parti cipate in another rodeo on the weekend of March 13-14, 1976, before returning to Oregon.
