Rothrock, friend Adyice Given STAYTON (Special)-Nell Mc Cue, who heads the Capital Busi ness College in Salem, was guest speaker for a dinner meeting of Stayton Business and Professional Women at Cascade Union High School last week. m ' The speaker talked of women's place in their communities and in business. Mrs. McCue gave ad vice on how to apply for a posi tion in business, stressing the im portance of appearance and abil ity to fill out properly an appli cation blank. The speaker was in- troduced by Mrs. Ruth Riches, Cascade instructor, who is chair man of news service for the club. A girls' trio from Cascade, Misses Lois Lyda, Laura Lee Gavette and Jeanette Townsend, sang two numbers. Miss Pat George Planes Mark Golden Anniversary CElfaRAL HOWELL (SpeciaD Mr. and Mrs. George Plane cele brated their golden wedding anni versary at their home on the Sil verton Road with Mrs. Plane's sis ter, Mrs. Will Saulcy of Loveland, Colo., and niece, Mrs. B. G. Den nis of LaSalle, Colo., among those present. Many other guests from Portland, Lebanon, Aumsville, Sil verton, Marquam and other valley towns were present as well as neighbors and friends from around Salem. About 150 guests signed the guest book. 9th Birthday Feted AMITY (Special) Miss Susan Orr, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Orr, was feted on her 9th birthday recently with a swim ming party, at the McMinnville Pool, followed by a picnic in the McMinnville City Park. Guests for the occasion were Joyce Ann Sheldon, Sheri De Raeve, Ton! Funk. State FL Head Visits WILLAMINA (Special) The State FL Club president, Mrs. Ul dean Lindquist of Riddle, made an official visit to the Willamina and Sheridan FL clubs at a joint meet ing last week in the Sheridan IOOF Hall. Mrs. Francis Thompson pre sided at the meeting of the Sheri dan Club, after which Mrs. Lind quist spoke. FL convention will be In Myrtle Creek, Sept. 21. A game was enjoyed after the meeting, with Mrs. Cliff DuVal, Mrs. Bill Denton and Mrs. Du wayne Willis winning prizes. ROUND. Mrs. Myron Pogue, assisted by Mrs. Robert F. Anderson at the piano, conducted the worship serv ice. The play, "Stolen Goods," was presented under the direction of Mrs. Charles Weeber, assisted by Miss Beverly Fulton. Pouring during the tea hour were Mrs. P. D. Baker and Miss McAdams. Mrs. Rodney Jelaca reported progress of the club's plans to sponsor an all-cotton style show in the Stayton Union High School gymnasium Saturday. June.8. Brownies Are Guests AMITY (Special) Mrs. John Orr was hostess recently to the advanced Brownie Scout Troop at her home, with Mrs. Amel Funk assisting. The Brownies devoted the after noon to making get-well cards and a scrap book for Lucy Loomis, a member of the third grade who is confined to her home wtih rheu matic fever. At the close of the afternoon the Brownies went in a group to the Loomis home to de liver their gifts. Mrs. Orr announced baton twirl ing and marching classes at her home, each Wednesday afternoon for the advanced Brownies. In structor for the group classes is Miss Betty Staggs. V Brownies Give Tea WILLAMINA (Special) The Brownie Troops in Willamina gave a tea for their mothers at the home of Mrs. Ray Barber last week. Those attending included Mrs. Paul Blackwcll and Mrs. Harold Perkins, leaders of Troop I, and Mrs. Paul Bailey and Mrs. Ray Barber, leaders of Troop II. PAUL (Special) A spirited campaign has developed for nu merous student oouy offices at the St. Paul Union High School. Stu dents were nominated recently for next year s offices. , Nominated for the top office of president for the 1957-58 school year were two juniors, Richard Koch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Koch, and Anna Marie Brentano, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brentano. Nominated for vice-president are Carole Harle and Loraine Smith; lor secretary, Charlene Kirk, Ger trude Frith and Thais Hiller; for treasurer, Norene Hiller and Kath leen Coleman and parliamentar ian, Mike . Sheridan Women Win Drill Prize SHERIDAN (Special)-The new drill team of the Eagles Auxiliary won the individual trophy for the best drill team, at the regional meeting in Newport recently. The traveling trophy will be retained by Sheridan until the next region al meeting in Albany.
