Wives of State Senate members and secretaries
in the Senate will be guests at an informal coffee
for which Mrs. Francis W. Zieglcr of Corvallis,
Mrs. Carl Francis of Dayton, Mrs. Dan Thiel of

Miss Miller to
Wed in Fall
Dr. and Mrs. Vern W. Miller are announcing the
engagement of their eldest daughter, Miss Joan
Marie Miller, to Kent C. Myers, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Arthur V. Myers of Salem.
The bride-to-be attended Salem schools, and
was graduated from University of Oregon and the
University of Oregon Medical School's School for
Nursing. For the past year she has been in pedi
atrics nursing in Portland. At the University she
was winner of the Gcrlinger eup for outstanding
junior woman, and in her last year in nursing
school was designated nurse of the year. She is a
member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and of Salem
Spinsters club.
Mr. Myers also attended Salem schools and
was graduated cum laude from Willamette Uni
versity in 1954. He was president of the freshman
class while on the campus, and was prominent in
golf. He is a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon
fraternity at Willamette. He taught for one year in
Albany, after a year's graduate work at Willam
ette. A PFC in the army now, he is in psycho
logical testing and personnel placement, army re
cruiting office. Dallas, Texas.
An early fall wedding is planned by the couple.

night will be the "Moulin Rouge" to be given by
Rotarian Women for all members and husbands.
The party annually is a big occasion on the eaten
dar of the group, and elaborate plans have been
made for this year's event. ,
The group will assemble at the Marion Hotel
for Ihe social hour at 6:30 o'clock, the dinner to be
in the Gold room at 7:30 o'clock. Decorations, en
tertainment and food all will feature the French
theme, the committee keeping as a surprise many

For Willamette University groups the big event
of the month is the annual May Weekend, starting
next Thursday. High School seniors fBjim around
the state are to be special guests for the event.
Miss Flossy Hodge, Portland, rules over the
festivities as May queen, her court Including Miss
Joyce Ambler of Portland and Miss Dolly Cum
mings of Woodburn. ' ' '
Starting off the program is a play by the
drama department, "Don Juan," to be given
Thursday and Friday nights. Following the Friday
night performance, a reception is to be given in
Doney Hall to honor Queen Flossy.
Saturday morning brings the orientation assem
bly at 9 a.m. for visiting high schoolers, followed
by the academic preview at 10 a.m.
Coronation ceremonies fo Queen Flossy will
be on the campus near the Fine Arts Building at
11 a.m.
The barbecue luncheon will be at noon in the
gymnasium.
Highlighting the afternoon will be a baseball
game between Willamette and Pacific University
at 1:30 o'clock; and a fashion show at 4 o'clock in
the Fine Arts Building for the girls not taking in
the game.
The weekend concludes with the formal Queen's
Ball on Saturday night in the gymnasium.
An evening meeting is planned by Chapter G of
P.E.O. Sisterhood next Thursday, the group to
meet at 7:30 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Harry B.
Johnson with Mrs. H. W. Shogren and Mrs, A. A.
Schramm as co-hostesses.
Friendship night will be observed by Trinity
Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, Friday evening,'
May 3, at West Salem City Hall. Visitors from
Adah Chapter, Independence, Victoria Chapter,
Turner, and Ramona Chapter, Silverton, will at
tend the meeting.
Cherry Assembly, Order of Rainbow for Girls,
will present' the program.
Bethel 48, Job's Daughters, will observe junior
bethel night Thursday, May 2, at its 7:30 o'clock
meeting at the Scottish Rite Temple. The junior

A varied program to be given by students of
Sacred Heart Academy will provide entertainment
for members of the Parents Club of the academy
Monday evening. April 29. The group will meet
at the school hall at 8 o'clock.
Young Matrons Club will meet Thursday eve
ning, May 2, at 8 o'clock, at the Mayflower Hall.
Mrs. Jeanne Monsanto will be hostess for the

Sojourners of Willamette Shrine, White Shrine
of Jerusalem, will meet for a potluck dinner Sat
urday, May 4, at 6:30 p.m., at the Masonic Temple.

evening, May 2, for a 6 o'clock dinner at the Gold
en Pheasant.
On Sunday, April 28, Mrs. E. W. Hillstrom and
Miss June Dunn of the club will be in Grants Pass
for the intercouncil speech contest at which Mrs.
Hillstrom will represent the area, having previous
ly won the championship at the area level.
Virtually a hundred per cent attendance of' Che
mekcla members will be at the regional meeting
in Eugene on 'May 3, 4 and 5, when the winner of
the intercouncil event will vie for the title for the
region. . '
Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Ullman are in Seattle this
weekend 'for a two-day veterans executive confer
ence of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.
A farewell party in honor of Mrs. Blanche
Brown was given by Mrs.- Erwin Lindsey Thursday
evening.
Mrs. Brown is leaving this weekend with her
children, Louise and Billy, tor Seattle, Wash.,
where the family will make its home.
