Salem, Oregon, Thursday, April 25, 1957 New Officers Take Positions At Woodburn Progressive Club Has First Election Meeting WOODBURN (Special) - Max Simmons was elected president of the Woodburn Progressive Club at the regular meeting this week. The club has been directed by temporary officers up to this time. Other officers elected were Don Thompson, vice president; Mrs. Kenneth Fry, secretary; Homer V'adsworth, treasurer. Elected to the board of directors were Ralph Bauer for two years; Leonard Leach, W. D. Lawrence and John Prinslow for the remainder of 1957. The constitution and by-laws, prepared by Don Thompson, Ralph Bauer and William Nuckles were approved and passed. Harold Ticknor presented a sam ple brochure which was accepted and will be printed.' Scholarship Won MOLALLA (Special) - Pally Reasoner of Molalla Union High School recently won a $100 nurs ing scholarship from the Auxiliary of the Oregon Medical Society. Angel Acad emy will perform in the annual music festival Sunday at 2:30 p.m in the Mt. Angel Women's College auditorium. The public is invited. The program will include piano, vocal, trumpet and violin solos, and numbers by the chorus and or chestra. The chorus will sing "Oh! "The Orchestra Song," arranged I Scholarships Awarded to Scio Student Mary Brock Wins Two Valuable Honorg In School SCIO (Special) Miss Mary Brock, valedictorian of the senior class, has received a $300 South Santiam State Scholarship and the Elks $250 Scholarship. She plans to attend Oregon Slate College. Salutatorian of the class is Miss Kay Thayer, who is a cousin of Miss Brock. Miss Brock, Miss Thayer and Miss Doretta Pedersen' are the three queen candidates for the Lamb Show, which will be held May 25. The queen's revue will be held Friday evening, May 24. " 'Nights in May9 Will Feature Frogram at Woodburn mgn WOODBURN (Special) "Nights in May" will be the theme and program motif for the annual Mav Dav festivities to be held Tuesday night. May 7, at Wood burn High School gymnasium. The date was first announced for May 4 but has been changed to May 7, when Miss Joanne Barry will be crowned Queen of the May. The program, directed by Mrs. by Schumann, "The Chocolate Sol dier," by Strauss, and "Gypsy Life" by Herbert, selections by the orchestra. GRESIIAM REPORTED ILL SILVERTON (Special) Mrs. M. G. Gunderson left by train for San Francisco Tuesday morning on receiving an emergency call from the home of her foster daugh ter, Mrs. Kelsey Gresham, the for mer Esther Towe. No details were available aside from the message that "Kelsey is critically ill." Receiver for Ply Firm Set ALBANY (Special) - Ed Keilen- berger, Lebanon lumberman, has been appointed receiver for the Linn Plywood Corp. of Albany by Circuit Judge Victor Olliver. He will direct affairs of the company until disposition is made of bank ruptcy proceedings. The petition in bankruptcy was filed by James E. Perse, president of the firm; Hugh Thompson and Philip J. Braden. The petition states that a mortgage for $117,000 is held by Roddis Plywood Corp., an eastern brokerage firm. It also avers that the firm has with held $122,927.15 from plywood ship ments during the last year, but re fuses to surrender the mortgage. Lloyd ' Craft, physical education instructor for girls, will icaiure dances and physical skills by all girls in the school. Queen Joanne will be escorted by Gene Higgins and will be crowned by Fidel Gaviola, student body president. Crown princesses are Carol Lea Foster, escorted by Charles Nath man and Carol Ann Livesay, escorted by Larry Bright.
