Thursday as Pacific Coast League
Baseball got underway.
San Francisco downed Portland,
S O, Seattle beat Sacramento, 9-4,
Los Angeles defeated Vancouver,
4-2, and Hollywood split a double
header with San Diego. San Diego
captured the first game, 6-1, but
the Stars won the second, 4-1.
' Opening games drew only 25,
173 persons-5,001 less than last
year. The big difference was in
San Francisco, where blustery
weather held the crowd to 6,412
persons compared to 14,401 the
year before.

Seattle struck quickly against
the Solons, scoring three unearned
runs in the first inning with two
out, Bob Balcena's two-run

a hefty six months turnover in
major league baseball. Teams
will have about 25 new players
in the opening day lineups next
week.
The Philadelphia Phillies will
have four changes: first baseman
Ed Bouchee, shortstop Chico Fer
nandez and outfielders Rip Repul-
ski and Bob Bowman. Bouchee
and Bowman are rookies up from
Miami of the International
League. Repulski was acquired
from' St. Louis and Fernandez
from the Brooklyn Dodgers.
The New York Giants will in
troduce shortstop phenom. Andree
Rodgers,. They'll also reintroduce
Whitey Lockman, back from the
Cards' and Gail Harris, recalled
from Minneapolis. :
Tire Chicago Cubs will have
third baseman Say Jablonski,
picked .up from Cincinnati, and
Bob- Speake. brought up from the
Pacific Coast League. Chicago al
