Albert Benson
Dies at Boise
From Boise comes word of the
death in a hospital there Sunday
of Albert Benson, 59, former Sa
lem resident,
Benson, who left Salem in 1952
and was a tool and die maker
until ill health forced his retire
ment last November, was born in
Thetford, Mich., Nov. 12. 1897. He
was married Aug. 1. 1946 in Sa
lem to the former Rennie Purs
ley. Benson was a life member and
a past master of Kingwood Lodge
No. 204. AF 4 AM. West Salem;
a member of the Scottish Rite
Bodies of Salem; Mystic Star
Chapter 81, Order of Eastern Star,
Boise: El Korah Temple of the
Shrine, Boise; and Veterans of For
eign Wars. Salem. j

a daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Pike,
Boise; a son, Wilbur Pursley,

Services Set
Funeral services will be held at
the W. T. Rigdon chapel Thursday
afternoon at 1:30 o'clock for Wil-
lard K Campbell, late resident of
1435 Trade St., who died at a
local hospital Tuesday morning.
Rev. Wayne Greene will officiate
at the service.
Campbell, who had suffered a
heart attack February 9 and been
hospitalized most of the time since,
was in the furniture business at
one lime in Salem and was a re
tired employe of the state of Ore
gon. Born in the Macleay community
east of Salem July 16, 1891, he
was the son of the late D. S.
Campbell and Martha Baker
Campbell. Campbell spent his
early boyhood in the Macleay and
Stayton areas and moved into Sa
lem when about 10 years of age.
He was married in 1913 in Salem
to the former Gladys Hopkins and
from 1915 to 19.17 the couple re
sided in the Rosedale community.
They returned to Salem to reside
in 1937.
Campbell was a member of the
First Christian church.
Surviving besides the widow are
two daughters, Mrs. Lenore Vla
sic, Salem, and Mrs. Margaret
Bright, Eugene; three sisters, Mrs.
Jessie Ralston, Lebanon, Mrs.
Virginia Martin,: Salem, and Mrs.
Mary Jane Murray, Santa Bar
bara, Calif.; and three grandchil
dren, James. Janice and Judy

Trade dealings Wednesday but
steadied at times due largely to
export buying.
A fair amount of export busi
ness was reported. New crop
wheat deliveries also were stead
ied at times by buying influenced
by high winds and dust in the
Southwest winter wheat belt. The
Weather Bureau said winds car
ried the dust inlo the Midwest,
where it was noted early Wednes
day in Chicago.

A. Steigerwald
Dies in Portland
Word has been received in Sa
lem of the death Sunday at a
Portland hospital following an
emergency operation of Alvin M.
Steigerwald, lather of Mrs. Austin
Elvers, Salem. Steigerwald was
one of the family who a number
of years ago operated Ihe Steiger
wald dairy, which built the big
milk bottle on Sandy Blvd.
Surviving besides Mrs. Eivers
are his widow, Beatrice Steiger
wald, Portland; two other daugh
ters, Mrs. D. W, Embree and
Mrs. J. L. Redman, Portland;
a son, Allen Steigerwald, Portland;
and 13 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held
Saturday morning at 10:30 o'clock
at the Ross-Hollywood chapel in
Portland.
H. S. Williams
Dies at Home
Harold Sumner Williams, em
ploye of the Salem Supply and
Equipment company for the past
few years and a lale resident of
735 Fairview Ave., died unexpect
edly at his home Tuesday evening.
Williams' death was from a heart
attack. He had known he had a
heart ailment since Christmas
time.
Born at Rochester, Minn., Sep
tember 30, 1901, Williams came lo
Salem from Minnesota in Septem
ber 1911. He was a member of the
Salem Heights Baptist church.
Surviving arc his widow, t h e
former Roxie Strike to whom he
was married in Minnesota in 1929;
a son. RogcrWilliams, Minneapolis;
a daughter, Miss Lois Williams,
Salem; six brothers, Clyde Wil
liams and Neil Williams, Median
