Musical Tea Event
For Monmouth Group
. MONMOUTH (Special) The
first in a series of midwinter mu
sical teas was given last week by
the piano students of Mrs B
Carolyn Elliott, teacher of piano
and organ. The younger group of
students presented a program of
solos and duets. At the end of the
program Mrs. Elliott played some
organ numbers. The guests were
the mothers and fathers of the
students.
The program was given in the
First Christian church of Mon
mouth. After the program guests
and students retired to the social
rooms of the church where re
freshments were served by Mrs
Elliott. The next tea in this series
will be given by the older stu
dents and high school students on
Saturday, February 23, in t h e
First Christian church.

WOODBURN (Special) - A no
host luncheon at noon opened the
regular meeting of the Woodburn
Woman's Rural club last week at
the library. The committee in
charge included Mrs. Albert
Rheinholdt, chairman, Mrs. Charles
Yuranek, Miss Mabel Jackson,
Mrs. Luella Sanderson and Mrs.
Anna Hempel. Guests present were
Mrs. Mayme Palmer, Mrs. Mary
Chandler of Portland, Mrs. Ursel
Livingston, and Mrs. Emil Schar
bach. An exchange of Valentines and
a program of games were enjoyed.

Civic Club Meets
With Mrs. Thompson
MONMOUTH (Special) Mrs.
Clara Thompson, director of dor
mitories at Oregon College of Edu
cation, was hostess to the Civic
club last week for its regular
meeting.
Mrs. Ellis Stebbins, president,
presided at the business session
and the group approved giving the
usual scholarship for a senior in
education at the college. An in
vitation was read from the Polk
County Rural Woman's club to at
tend a meeting at Rickrcall on
February 20 from 2 to 5 o'clock.
Mrs. Thompson conducted those
present on a tour through Todd
hall and Maaske hall, after which
she gave a talk on "What's in
the Stew?" She gave a compre
hensive survey on what it takes
to house, feed, care for, and main
tain a laundry for some several
hundred students.
At the tea hour Mrs. Thompson
served with Miss Esther Mason,
head housekeeper at the college,
presiding at the tea urn.
The next meeting, March 14, will
be at the college library lounge
and the program will be given by
Charles Noxon of the department
of social science at Oregon College
of Education. His topic will be
"Jerusalem as I Saw It",

Program Planned
For Woodburn Tea
WOODBURN (Special) A di
versified program is planned for
the 49th annual Martha Washing
ton tea February 22 at the Wood
burn library club rooms, sponsored
by the Woodburn Woman's club as
a library benefit. .
The program begins at 2 p.m.
and will include a reading by Mrs.
Roberta Campbell, vocal solos by
Mrs. Ted Landsem accompanied
by her daughter, Gloria, a ventril
oquism act by tho Rev. George
Norsworthy and "Junior," and the
anual report of the librarian, Mrs.
Leonard Fuller.
Mrs. Percy Sccly Is general
chairman for the tea. Pouring will
be Mrs. A. E. Austin, the only
charter member, Mrs. Charles
Conyne, Mrs. Alvah G. Cowan and
Mrs. R. L. Anderson. All except
Mrs. Conyne are past presidents.
A number of members will wear
Martha Washington costumes to
lend color to the afternoon. As
this project is a benefit for the
library to which all receipts are
turned over, the entire community
has been Invited to support the
affair..

Dwaine D. Chretien who told of
the state convention in Salem next
year In May with the Salem chap
ters and the Dallas chapter as
hosts. Plans are already under
way for the event. '
