league career with Brooklyn at

the club from its Montreal farm
of the International League. He
has played first base, second
base, and in recent years at third
and the outfield.
Littlefield was obtained in the
Alvin Dark deal with the St. Louis
Cardinals last summer. He had a
4-4 record with the Giants this
year.
Bill Rigney, Giants manager,
said Robinson would play first
base for the Giants. The regular
Giants' first baseman. Bill White,
is now in the Army.

is the first Negro to play in the
majors, and has a lifetime batting
average of .309. In 117 games in
1936, Robinson batted .275, with
98 hits, including 15 doubles, two
triples, and 10 home runs, and he
stole 12 bases.
Littlefield. 30, a lefthander, be
gan the 1956 season with the Pitts
burgh Pirates, but went to the
Cardinals in May, and a month
later was traded to New York.
