These and other recommenda' tions were referred Wednesday, 1 iti,,.i, J T nrl ; Dairymen Talk Way to Obtain Milk Increase PORTLAND 'm About 80 dairymen met here Wednesday to map plans for obtaining a milk price increase in Portland. They agreed that a booit is needed but were not decided on the best way to go about getting it. One of them, Harry Lane of Stafford, said a recent court de cision cast doubt on the authority of the Oregon Milk Producers to bargain for milk prices. He said he understood that only cooperatives could bargain, and suggested that something be done by the Dairy Cooperative Assn. and the Portland Independent group. At the same time, some dairy men circulated a petition request ing the president of the Oregon . Milk Producers to begin negotia tions for a Portland increase. Oregon Milk Producers is a statewide organization headed by Richard .Westerberg, Medford, .and its manager is Lester Adams, also of Medford. Producers vice president C. A. Chapman, Gresham, who presided at the session, called for the re placement of Adams as manager. He accused Adams of stalling in earlier efforts to get a Portland price boost. In justification of the proposed increase, Neal Miller of Woodburn said dairymen are faced with ris ing costs of taxes, grain and la bor, although he said hay prices are about the same. He took ex ception to a recent Oregon State College report indicating costs were about the same as a year ago. Meanwhile the Oregon Milk Pro ducers reported it has two bills ready for submission to the Leg islature, which convenes next month. One of these, described as a "fair trade practices" act for the milk industry, would be aimed at preventing milk or ice cream dealers from furnishing equip ment, loans, discounts or rebates to obtain wholesale accounts. The other would provide for a usage audit by all milk distribu tors. Producers said that some of their number suspect that milk purchased at the surplus price winds up In bottles or cans. The Air Force released (his phoo in Washington. Dec. 11, and said it shows the first Boeing KC135 jet tanker-transport refueling a B-52 jet bomber for the first time, high over the Pacific Northwest. The Air Force said KC135 tankers will go Into operational units in the spring of 1957 to make possible high altitude, high-speed refueling as a routine Strategic Air Command procedure. In a recent demonstration, a group of the eight-Jet B52's flew more than 16,000 miles non-stop with the aid of aerial refueling. Wm. Kinnan Dies Thursday William Kinnan, 78, died Thurs day morning at a local hospital. He was a resident at 1599 State street and worked as a laborer in the Salem area for 20 years. Born in Tioton. Iowa, July 1 1878. Kinnan is survived by five sons and five daughters all living in the Northwest. Survivors include sons, Lorenzo, Salem; Delmer. Corvallis: Walter. Portland; Morris, Bremerton; and Richard. Aurora; Daushtcrs, Mrs. Mary Ann Bonham. Baker; Mrs. Howard Kline. Port Orchard. Wash.: Mrs. Lorene Honeywell, Port Orchard: Mrs. Letha Mc Daniel.
