Elks Schedule
Memorial Rite
For Thursday
Annual memorial services will
e held by the Elks Thursday
light to pay tribute to members ot
he lodge who have died during
he last year.
The services will be open to
ho public and everyone is invited,

short meeting ot the lodge at 7:30.

Richard S. Dodd was elected
worshipful master of Vista Ma
sonic lodge at a meeting held in
Beaver hall, 248 North Commer
cial St., Tuesday night. He suc
ceeds Harold Rosebraugh.
Other new officers elected in
clude: John W. McCallister, senior
warden; Raymond L. Rolow, jun
ior warden: E. Bingham Powell,
treasurer, and William F. Herald,
secretary.
The new officers will be in
stalled at ceremonies to be held
at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 18 in the lodge
hall.

Sack Appeal
Deadline Near
Attorneys for George Sack, un
der death sentence for slaying
his wife, have only two days in
which to file an appeal from the
decision of the Oregon supreme
court to the United States supreme
court.
The deadline for the appeal is
Friday, supreme court officials
aid.
Some time ago Oregon! highest
court affirmed Sack's first-degree
murder conviction in the Mult
nomah circuit court. He has been
held in Rocky. Butte jail in Port
land since his conviction.
He was under sentence to die in
the gas chamber at the state peni
tentiary Dec. 15. In the event an
appeal is made the state, supreme
court will be asked to stay his
execution pending decision by the
U.S. supreme court.

Shrine Hospital
Will Get $4300
From Salem Club
A check for $4,300 will be pre
sented to the Portland Shriners
Crippled Childrens hospital by the
Salem Shrine club, A. W. Morris,
1957 president announced at a
club meeting held at the Hotel
Senator Tuesday night.
The check will be presented by
Paul Hale, Sr., retiring president
of the club at a special ceremonial
in Portland. The money represents
net proceeds derived from the Sa
lem Shriner club golf tournament
and a horse show held last summer.
